Hey Guys,

Show off your large clams and share the story behind it.
Most Clams have due to it's Lifespan a very interesting story behind it.

I have recently posted on Facebook an updated picture of my Tridacna Derasa clam vs. a Video from the past.
This clam is growing amazingly fast ;-)

See the real short Video here, it is really amazing, many people like to keep staring at it, lol.

2 years now in my tank it grew from 2" to 8-9" nowadays, and you can see it growing..................
When my wife bought it as a gift, it was a lil tiny sweet clam and it was originally on the Sand bed.
One day when it was still small, I did some aquascaping and temporary laid her down on the center shelf rock in the tank reserved for some real expensive Acro colonies coming in.

However the dang clam attached herself so badly that I could not remove it from there anymore (Lessons learned).
So since then she keeps growing and spreading and knocks large grown Acro colonies off left and right whenever she feels like it ;-)

Keeps me busy gluing the colonies back on, and trying to make spare for her :frusty:

Happy Reefing,
-Andre

I don't have a story but my clams grew so big had to sell-what I really regret sold my gigas very cheap due to lack of knowledge. I didn't know it was a higher end clam.

The deresa was over a foot long fully opened when I sold it

Got a squamosa clam from reef current earlier this year. It is doing very well and I managed to attached it to my disk coral skeleton. And now it is sitting on my sand bed. Used to have two maxima clams, one blue and one purple. But sold both.

I may have to break my inactive streak to reply to this thread. I bought my Derasa clam in 1999 and it was about 3" long. It grew up in a 58 Gal aquarium and was moved to Milwaukee in 2002. It lived in a 120 Gal tank there. In early 2005 it moved back to Houston with me, and was relocated into my new 300 Gal tank a few years after that.

There are some YouTube videos out there of it being relocated. . .now I have to go find my camera and take a new photo.

That clam is gorgeous!! So very impressive!!

I would love to have a clam or two but just haven't done my homework on them yet. Anybody want to share your secrets and advice?? What is the key to keeping a healthy, thriving, and growing clam?
