This is how you treat a fussy shroom. Note that it’s mouth is distended and it’s guts are hanging out. No active melting but an open mouth is a bad sign. I nip things in the butt as soon as the mouth starts getting lazy. One round of iodine, followed by revive dip and finally concentrate chemiclean dip. Here is before and literally 24 hrs later.

It clearly wants CPR.

What happens if you do nothing in that situation? The first picture was lights out versus the second with lights. Do the mushrooms typically act the same way the next day once that starts?

I’ve noticed that every shroom is different during lights out. Same OG bounce drags will all act differently. Some close up completely, some are wrinkled and others are fully open. Some say that that kind of look, where the mouth is open and guts hanging out, happens every so often and is nothing to be worried about. Guts coming out through the mouth or even in areas out of the body or foot is a stress reaction. Given that I had brown jelly in the water column I didn’t want to chance anything with the $1500 OG CC so I dipped. In the past when I had my brown jelly attack what would happen is the shroom would go from perfectly happy to shrink up. Then if you leave it at that the mouth gapes open and guts may or may not come out. Also may or may not detach, usually detached. Next step is jelly and then death shortly after.

Huh???? I didn’t pay attention to my tank for 4 days and I come home to a completely healthy shroom melted. Nothing wrong with my tank once again. This one was always hardy and then poof one day it dies.

I know nothing of mushrooms but is there potentially any type of chemical warfare going on in the tank with so many different varieties?

Usually shrooms don’t have issues with each other. Yuma’s sting. Wild ones suck. Other than that this is a mystery to me... the one that melted was not touching anything and it had been fine for many months till today.

Well that's a shame. Sorry for the random melt. That's never fun to come home to.
