I’ve received requests to start a thread on this so here we go. I’m sad to say that my 200 gal shroom only tank is in the process of being shut down but at the same time am thrilled to see my collection thrive back in my original no namer ghetto 60gal. Equipment and set up is cheap and simple, simple is what I attribute to the success I’ve had with it in the past. Most expensive equipment piece is the supplement radion gen 4 pro. main light coralife t5 ho bought for $250. Tank looks a mess with the shroom boxes and random shrooms all over the bare bottom. Bare bottom is perfectly primed for my move in a month. I have minimal rock for the fish currently housed. Main biofiltration is a big mp block in the sump. Had an outbreak of brown jelly and may have possible chemical warfare between so many diff types of shrooms in smaller space so I’ve started running carbon. The chemical I’m guessing. I’ve used stump remover with heavier feeding and nitrates are nicely at 5. The last pic I’m laughing cause I think bubbalicious momma is trying to eat a hermit

Wow! I'm blown away by how many different colors and varieties of shrooms there are, you have quite the collection.

Do you target feed any of them or do a blanket feeding...or nothing at all and let them fend for themselves?

I have a few different shrooms. A couple are doing really well, growing, splitting etc...and then there are a few that are teeny and I've seen no growth at all! I've recently acquired a small bounce and i would really like to see it grow and thrive.

Will definately be following along!

Thank you. The collection has actually taken a big hit and I’ve lost a few very special ones (I think from brown jelly spreading). I’ve heard of a lot of people feeding almost everything under the sun from Roids to pellets to roe but that’s because they want to grow them quickly, want them to split, and or grow babies. I have learned with great cost to just feed your fish, keep your nitrates up, and keep them alive. Time will make them bigger. Shrooms grow fast. Your tiny frag will be a huge momma in a few years

Wow. Nice shrooms. I told my dad the only way I’m getting back in to a Reef tank (currently running a fowlr) is with mushrooms. Just a few questions. Where do you find all those mushrooms in all different colors? For lighting do u run all and only blue on the radion and what is the intensity of it? That’s all I can think of. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your losses. That is something that no one wants to get hit with, especially bjd. Have you tried to figure out what triggered it? What, if anything, have you done since to try and prevent it from taking anymore of your mushrooms?

be careful of what you wish for. Shrooms are the craze right now so the prices are a bit outrageous, unless you go for yumas, rics, regular rhodactis, etc. The high end ones can rack up quite a bill. The most pricey one I had was 4k. Also, shrooms are not as indestructible as everyone think. The cheap ones, yes, you cannot kill for the most part. The expensive ones are the ones that melt and make you want to cry. Then on top of that we all know about the dreaded brown jelly that can get out of hand and wipe out your entire colony. That happened to a portion of my high end collection. If you're prepared for this going in then you should be fine. If not you don't have any business buying anything high end.

Once one melts you get brown jelly. In a large volume tank it's not such an issue, it's when the shrooms are all close to another or in a smaller volume or less flow area (which is ideal for shrooms). the brown jelly issue spread when one of them melted in a containment box where there were several discosomas bunched together. each shroom that melted was siphoned out but non the less it's in the water column. one by one happy shrooms started melting and that was when brown jelly was suspected. parameters all in check. big water change, add carbon and wait it out is the only thing i can do at this point. that's why i recommend that if you get in this game be prepared for not losses, but BIG losses. yumas go first. I lost a beautiful godzilla colony. then the discos go. the rhodactis will split and then you end up with two. I'd say if you want to do shrooms go with bounce rhodactis, I haven't lost a single one of those, knock on wood.

Ok. I don’t plan to dive in with the expensive stuff right away. I’ll start out with some Yuma’s and rics. And work my self up to bounces and any other higher end shrooms. And to go along with shrooms I’ll be getting a few different color torch’s and hammers. But once I switch my light set up is when I’ll get a few Yuma’s but for now I’m just doing all the reserach I can do! Thank you for the info tho!

my golden tipped hammer stung the crap out of one of my floating shrooms so I evicted it. also, yumas sting other shrooms...

Ok I did not know Yuma’s had stingers. I have a lot of rock real estate and will spread out all the corals and let them grow in. Don’t plan to over stock.

Out of curiosity, why did you choose not to use live rock in the display? It's the difference between a straight line and a zig zag one. More linear inches. It would significantly increase the surface area where mushrooms can be placed/grow, allows you to space them out a bit, and allows for lower or higher flow/light spots to figure out what each mushroom prefers.

The minimal live rock there is what was left of the system before I emptied out the livestock and other pieces of live rock. I pulled the sand and made it bottomless before adding the shrooms just because I knew I was moving in a month. Otherwise I left everything the way it was. I want to add more rock work or acrylic work to make the tank more presentable but the goal here was to get the stability back. Believe it or not the redsea 200gal had only softies and some fish with sand and Marco rock and it caused an alk crash.I haven’t done a WC or dosed the 200g in 15 days and the alk has dropped from 8.5 to 6.8 with nothing in it, just checked today. This is why I’m not messing with anything right now.

Not changing water or dosing isn't very stable either ;)

Just throw some kalk in your top off tank and call it a day.

I gave up on the 200 which is why I stopped doing wc, dosing or even checking anything. There's nothing in that tank but biofilter.

Very nice mushroom collection. I have some different color ones, but i recently got 2 baby jawbreaker. One detached itself from the rock and currently under special care (no flow and inside a rock hole with low light)
