I'm getting ready to switch over from a wet/dry system, To a protein skimmer. (AquaC EV-180 Protein Skimmer) Is there anything I need to watch out for or do? I don't want to kill everything!
Start the skimmer immediately with no issues. I would only remove 1/3 of the bio-balls per week for 3 weeks so the system doesn't suffer a sudden ammonia spike.
If this is a reef with a lot of LR you may be able to take more out but I would test your water for ammonia each day.
If you must remove all of the bio-balls to fit the skimmer in the sump then I would be sure to have a fair amount of water premixed for water changes.
