How did you aclimate the snails? They are HIGHLY sensative to changes in PH and SG. However, that usually shortens the life but doesn't just make them die quickly. Have you gotten a second opinion on your water? What is in your tank after the crash?

Salinity? Also, just to be on the safe side, have you tested for copper? Or phosphates, Alkalinity, etc (the more esoteric tests in the reefkeepers kit).

And I see the tcarlson has already asked about aclimation, so I'll skip that one....

just let them sit in the bag for a while.................

SG=1.025 - 1.026

Not to be funny, but my cleaning crew gets an acclimation which consists of the ride home in the bag. Once home, they go directly in the tank. :-x

Any chance there is a hitch hiker feasting on your snails?
Just a thought,

If the SG, temperature, pH, or even alkalinity was quite different from your sources, chances are you toasted them when you didn't acclimate them. Been there, done that. :( Some people may have done the "guerilla acclimation procedure" as I've heard it called and their critters survived, but as a general rule, inverts definitely need to be gently acclimated.

What I like to do to acclimate all my fish/ inverts is take them out of the bag, hold them out in the open air till they look just about dead, then throw them in the tank.

I figure, at that point they'll feel so much better in the water that it won't matter that they weren't acclimated.

:lol: jk.

What no one has asked is what type of snails are you talking about.

You say your tank temp is 80 degrees. A lot of snails will not tolerate that temperature in the tank.

Most snails like a bit cooler temps. Just a thought!
