You can get ceramic tile that looks a lot like wood. That's what we have in our aquarium room. Ours is grey and looks sort of like weathered boardwalk wood. It's heavily textured so it's pretty slip-resistant.

Yeah I thought about tile too, but if I ever have to take the room down, it will be a pain to get it up.

Look into LVT. There are some brands IIRC that essentially glue to eachother for a floating installation.

Thanks for the heads up. I already have all the materials sitting in my garage though. Just waiting for Steve to not back out. It's a small room and won't take long to hang. You hear me, Steve?!!

Getting some drywall and insulation work done as we speak. Shout out to wingnut for helping me today. Still got plenty more to go.

The purple drywall is made for extra moisture and mold protection. Not as cheap but worth it

Instead of using the garage light switch to run the fish room too, I installed its own dedicated switch. I'll probably go back and change the light to a 6" bulb as well. I want it brighter.

Insulation is done. Wingnut had to roll out so the inside drywall will have to wait until I have a little more help. Looking good so far though.

Thanks! "I get by with a little help from my friends" pretty much sums up this build. Hard to do by yourself. The room itself could be more square, but then again, the garage isn't perfectly square. As far as the room is concerned though, it's turning out to be everything that I wanted it to be. As far as the tanks, I'm frothing at the mouth to get them up. So exciting!

Minus painting, I will finish this sucker this weekend.

My brother kidnapped my sawsall, so reeftopia brought his over to help cut out the boards in the entrance. It's nice to have it finally cut out so that you don't have to step over the 2×4s.

My wife helped me hang all but one wall last night. We ran out of screws so I had to wait for help today. Reeftopia helped, and now the drywall is officially hung. Time to break out the joint compound and tape!

This coming from a man with an entire reef building!

He didn't give his stamp of approval until he could claim to be a part of it haha

But yeah, I'm pumped about it. Only problem is that between being out of shape, getting back into disc golf now that the winter has broken, and hanging/cutting drywall, my chest and shoulders are shot.

So I'm not the best at laying down joint compound, so I go heavier then sand it down between layers. It's not something I'd do as a profession, but I can still get the same smooth results. Just takes me a lot more time. It's actually pretty nice to crank the radio, chill, and do mindless work sometimes though. Either way, first layer down.

are you playing in the disc golf tournament coming up in Huntsville

Hell no. Jerry (I believe that's his name) has a course that's out of my league. I don't have the accuracy to thread the needle on most of that course. It's a very nice course though. How's his pond coming along? Growing out the plants nicely?

I've been hand sanding the joints to get them perfect, but it's just taking forever. I had read online before to not use a palm sander because it's too much and will mess up the walls and the sander itself. I broke down last night, picked up a $30 palm sander and 150 grit sandpaper, and wow. I did two days worth of hand sanding in about an hour. Just got a little more to go then it's on to painting. I'm getting closer!

Been thinking about doing the same thing in my garage but wondered about the sheetrock where the walls meet. It doesn't look like you removed the old sheetrock so it is sandwiched between the top plate and the ceiling joists right? I am guessing that doesn't hurt anything? I have seen people remove the sheetrock in those spots in the past and wondered if it was necessary.

Looks great guys and loving the purple sheetrock!!!
