Ohhh ok, well dang then. That still sucks!
Yeah I'm trying to get home soon and see what the damage is. The water was still murky this morning everything had a film on it. I basically ended up with a tank full of Kalk paste, which is what you use to kill unwanted corals.

Wow, That sucks. You had some nice looking stuff in there.
Yeah we will see what I can salvage. I'm gonna have to do about a 90% water change when I get home to get the paste out.

The smell is enough to make you gag.

A few polyps here and there. If it ever does recover, it will take forever.

Damn, I really liked that Blue/Purple one. Do they have any color left?
Not sure. I have them in one of the 40 breeders at the moment. Going to move them into the main display later to get some lights on them.

Sorry to see that, Cody. Don't give up on those corals - I've seen corals with less live tissue than that come back.
Oh I won't. I can just kick myself for think they'd be ok. Lesson learned.

The lesson learned is finish putting together my damn cnc router and build a proper Kalk reactor. This whole problem would have been avoided if I were using one.

A great reason for me no to just put it in my top off, that’s why I’m going to be dosing it via a dosing pump. So that it is controlled.

Oh I still plan on using my auto top off to run the Kalk. The difference is that I would have used reactor to push the new incoming water through the bottom bed of Kalk. Then it would have gone into the tank no problem. The problem wasn't that I dosed too much Kalkwasser. The problem is that I dosed the damn powder itself.

How????? :confused2::confused2::confused2:

Powder directly in the sump/tank?
Imagine a bucket with Kalk powder in the bottom. You then pour in a bunch of water over the powder and it makes a flurry in the bucket. If the auto top off starts pulling immediately, then it doses that flurry. To prevent this, I poured enough fresh water into the tank to turn off the auto top off, yet it didn't work for some reason and I ended with a tank full of Kalk. The powder never had a chance to settle to the bottom of the bucket.

Technically you dumped kalk directly in the tank :lmao::deadhorse2::lmao:

It happens....
