My super trooper 6 line wrasse is swimming inverted for a few of days now. He’s feeding although with great difficulty but he’s still pretty inquisitive to his tankemates and surrounding. Saw it on youtube where a husband and wife put together an apparatus to keep their goldfish, with a bladder problem, stays boyance in the water. I suspect a wrasse is too small to have anythting fastened to their body. Does anybody have any suggestions? TIA

Right now hes in a shoe box with holes to keep hin safe from the wavemaker and overflows. Params are as follows:
Trates 5-10
Temp77
Ca 480
Alk 9.2

Wish I could help, but I've got nothing. I'm not a big fish guy so I'm useless in this situation.

I agree with above. How long have you had him? Most fish get swim bladder issues from being captured in the wild and brought up to the surface too fast.

But if you've had him a while, he most likely has an infection creating gas in the bladder area. Your choices are to let it try and correct on its own (which it does 50% of the time), or medicate him with a broad spectrum antibiotic. I'm thinking something like metro but go to seachem's website and see what is recommended for swim bladder issues.

I’ve had hin for about a week or so now. Was swimming fine at the shop. Can anyone tell if it’s too much air or actually a ruptured bladder? My guess is the latter, thats why hes inverted and motionless. If so, is this fatal? I will medicate him and try the peas.

Anyone here has a steady hand to try the needle in the video :) Thanks!

I had a Lamark's angel that did something similar. He made it through QT just fine until I introduced him to the DT. His was a bloated swim bladder. He would float to the top like a beach ball so he was always fighting to stay down. He would stay under the plates of the monti to avoid floating to the surface. Getting him to eat mashed peas was a joke. I finally just let it go as he was still eating. It took about a month but it finally corrected itself. I am convinced it was some sort of a bacterial or fungal internal infection that was creating gas that he couldn't pass.

I would say, if he is eating, let him try to work it out on his own. If he isn't eating, I would QT and medicate with either metronidizole or kanaplex. Both are broad spectrum antibiotics. I think the Kanaplex handles both positive and negative gram bacteria.

Yea, it’s probably not feasible to feed peas, i’ll give it a shot though. He’s eating mysis a but his aim is all over the place( Hold the toilette jokes please LOL) Where can i find antibiotics in town?

I find “klutz” cute, it’s an endearment term especially coming from a wife/gf :) I bungled, dropped, bumped into things, like, on a daily basis. It’s a miracle I can hold onto a job this long. Ha ha!

How is it doing? I think you guys have done a good job at id it and coming up with a solution so i dont think i have much to offer except a little confidence... It is not as hard as you think it is, just a little intimidating.

Previously he was inverted and sank to the bottom. Now, he’s still upside down but floated to the top. Stopped eating but he’s a soldier toughing it out. Thanks!

I havent been able to ID whats wrong wiith him. Just chalking it up to the general consensus on here it’s a bladder issue of some sort.
