You may have to pay extra ~$5/ bag for shipping which brings the price to around $17/ bag for this SD sand, while Global carries the Arogonite sand for only ~$18 - 20/ bag, and you can get it rite away, anytime you want and only need to buy just enough for your need. Also remember that the SD sand doesn't look as white as the Arogonite sand. SD sand has a little yellow tint to it, of course it's still much better than the silicate playsand at HD :)

Yep, it's 40 lbs bag. It's less than the SD 50lbs bag, but again it's whiter and cleaner.

You said 20lb bag originally. Thats what I was comparing the price too.

I beleive this would represent $18 to $20 per bag, not that it was $18 for a 20lb bag.

And they are correct the Arogonite is available at Global (40lb bag), depending on John's inventory the price is $18 to $20 each bag.

Not that I have a lot of expertise in this area either the Arogonite that I have seen verses the SD is much brighter. IMO!! not to mention that it is much easier to get. I beleive a pallet would weigh around 2000lbs to 2500lbs depending on if it were 40 bags or 50bags per pallet. I beleive you shipping price per bag seems to be a little on the low side.

Having had both I have to say that the Carib-Sea is worth the extra few dollars a bag if it is going into a display tank. It is much whiter, which not only looks better it also reflects more of the light back up to your corals. I am sure if we got together enough people we could do a group order of Carib-Sea through Global and get the price very close to SD.

I saw the SD sand in Abran's sump before and it did have a tan tint compared to his Arogonite sand in the main tank. So it's worth to pay a little extra $$ to get the better color at the beginning since once you put those sand in, you may never want to mess w/ them again until you want to take the tank down.
And the Arogonite sand at Global comes in 40lbs bags. They have the cheapest price in town - i think - since I saw other stores had the 20 lbs bag Caribean sand for about $25.

I ask him for a quote on a pallet and this is what he say, "I will discount 10% for a pallet the shipping could be up to $700 to ship that's 56 bags.

cost per unit

looking at economies of scale, how much does the sand cost per grain?.........couldn't be much!
