I was just wondering if anyone has a larger tank set up on carpet. The stand has leveling feet of course but I no fan of setting a large tank directly on the carpet. The tank will not settle properly and will need to be adjusted as it settles. I am thinking of using small round or squares to put between the carpet and leveling feet of the stand to help spread the load, make it easier to access leveling feet in the future and allow better settling. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Edit: I’m thinking maybe 2” squares x 1” thick black pvc or something like that?

Hi. My 90 gallon is set up on carpet. As long as the floor is level and you set up at least an inch off the wall (really an inch off the moulding) to avoid the tack strip, there's really no problem. However, I would not use/rely on the leveling feet and would recommend regular wood shims if needed.
Are you able to completely remove the feet? What are the dimensions of the tank?

I would put a 3/4" plywood under the stand - for extra security I would even paint the ply with kilz paint/primer.

How old is the carpet? Another opotion is to cut the carptet off completely where the tank is going.

Yea If I used wood, I would use solid but I was afraid of that getting wet and rotting out over time. That’s why I thought pvc or high density plastic might be an option. Dipping in kilz should take care of the wood getting wet and rotting part though. I though maybe some of us might have had some experience with that. By the same token I am aware that I can be a little ocd about things but putting a heavy tank on carpet just doesn’t sound like the beginning of a success story lol.

Dims are 72x21.5x21.5. When the stand has leveling feet the entire weight is distributed to the contact points. If you place a larger disk or plate underneath those contact points you are spreading the load bearing pressure from the per foot contact (let’s say 3/4”) to whatever size the plate underneath it is (2” square) make a a huge difference in the way everything settles and everything is much easier to balance out. Especially if you have a spongy surface underneath. Some folks don’t care and it works just fine for them. I, for my part, would not be able to sleep at night 😵‍💫
