Decide why not and start a build thread on my 40 breeder reef! Plus today school is super boring! lol shhh don’t tell my dad.

** this is a long one**

Any way so let’s get started with the tank stand and sump and go down the list.

So the tank is a 40 gallon breeder 36”x18”x18” it’s actually around 47 gallon. Lol
I won this tank at the 2018 framers frag swap, I missed my homecoming dance for that event well worth it!! If you where there then you should remember that it was drilled, by Cody, and he made me a custom 24” ghost overflow! (It’s amazing!) I also painted the back of the tank black.

The Stand is custom built by my dad and my self. It’s made by 2x4s, and has a nice trim on it it too. The outside is paint black and the inside white. (I’ll take pics when I get home) we used about 12 feet of wood. Lol

The sump is a trigger system emerald 26” I believe, I bought it brand new from fish land, Andy gave me a hella of a good deal. I actually do like it, but I may upgrade, later on if I upgrade the system over all.

Now the equipment
Let start at the top
-My tank is lit by a 36” aquaticlife t5 hybrid with all ATI bulbs, 2 blue plus, 1 coral plus , and 1 atinic, as well as a black hydra 26hd, ( I Just got a brand new one of the production line! Thank you AI! I’ll explain later) Ill run a schedule that mimics t5s And Haildes ( I’m setting up the new light today)
- in the tank I’m running 2 RPM reefbreeder pumps, for my flow. Let me tell u this are the best wave makers I’ve ever own! I like it better than my old gyre 230. I’m working on a review on it for my YouTube channel, will post a link on here when I upload it.

Before I go in the sump, I run a super simple set up for now.
- I run a simplicity 120 skimmer dc, best skimmer I have ever owned so far. I plan to do some avast marine upgrades.
- in the Fuge I run a grow light from HD, planning to get a better light from amazon. It works good and cheap but just isn’t working for me.
- in the Fuge I have some live rock and marine pure gems, I plan to add more bio media.
- I also run a cobalt neo heater i think it’s 100 Watts I may ad Another 75 watts, the temp swings too much. And also a temp controller
- return pump I run a Jebao dc 6000, I run it at 30%
- I run a smart micro ato I bought it from WWC when I went there last thanksgiving break.
- to keep my water Parms up I use a Jebao dp4 doser and run all brightwell. I have to dose cal 10 ml, alk 10 ml and 12 ml a day.

Now live stock.
So at the time of typing this up, I had a massive die off, and lost every single fish except a single Chromis... so I’m doing a reboot with fish. My corals well my sps aren’t doing that great cause I have a very low nutrients. I also plan to do a lps dominate tank as well. The sps I got from Steve, and I thought maybe it will be okay. The only sps that are thriving are 2 out of the 3 monti species i own.

Here’s what i have in the tank that are worth mentioning
- large green carpet nem
- Indo trachy with yellow strips
- 2 small acan colonies one green and blue the other is a red orange
- Favia frag
- war coral frag
- and a Ora Squamose clam.
- oh and 1 Chromis

Here’s what I plan to to add
Fish wise
I want to do a Chromis Harem, about 6-8 of them, also I plan to add a lid so I can have a snowflake eel, along with my lammack angel that I have in “qt”.
To add more color ill do some fat fairy wrasse lol

I’m going to take a break from tangs, no more for me.

Corals wise-
More zoas, acans, i plan to have a giant Euphyllia garden, mainly torches.
And of courses some nice big meat corals.

Currant battles -
Cyano. I have a plan which I’ll type later, my hands are pretty tiered.

Ill post pics later tonight.

Happy reefing
Lucas.

Awesome electronic display man. How did you mount your stuff to the wall?
Thank you did that about a year ago. Used 2x4s and a plywood board. I’m going to be making a power cabinet with almost 30 outlets, I plan to add some more tanks to my room! ( insert evil laugh) 😂 I can take closer pics when I get home.

Quick reef update, basically an outline of what I’ll be talking about in a tank update for my YouTube channel.
So I got my my led back, still battling Cyano, I feel like I could be doing more, but I really does take time, my dad has a Theory to why I have Cyano so bad. The carpet is EVIL 👿!!! (He had a 60$ lunch!!). Finally I’m starting to see some stability. Put together a zoa garden. And lastly finally found my top 2nd fav fish, the Davinci clownfish, And got a bullethole clown!!
That’s about it for updates. If I think of something else I will post it. Also I will post a link to the video once it’s up.

Happy reefing!
Lucas

Update time!
So I won!!! My battle with cyano I have no more! Basicly I had my dad clean my tank, he took every speck of it out!
The carpet nem was finally booted after it ate the davanci and the bullethole. And practically all my fish.

I sat for a while without any fish other than a chromis. But recently my dad had to convince me I was ready for fish. So I got a Naso tang, 2 weeks ago. ( I know he’s gonna need a 6ft long tank soon so it’s in the works)

Today I bought 3 new fish. The first is prob the best angel you can have a Bellus angel, for those who don’t know they are completely reef safe! I got mine at FJW for $130! And that is the first fish I bought with my own money from my first job! I also got a mocha storm clown on accident! Lol and a pretty hefty cleaner wrasse!

Fish to come will be a black leopard or an orante leopard wrasse, and a nauroke wrasse( I think that’s how you say it.) and a mate for the bellus angel. That will happen hopefully by July.

Corals have been on hold I needed to restock my tank with fish first. But at REEF CURRENTS I plan to get some corals. And after i graduate I plan to get more sps.

Not much has changed equipment wise, I did add a doser.

That’s pretty much it.

Happy reefing
Lucas

So umm the mocha storm diddnt make it and it’s my fault, this is what happens when you leave things half way done. I’m going to use some egg crate to block bulkheads of over flow box to stop fish and snail to going in the main drain.

Other than that all my other fish are happy! The naso tang looks so much better and I feel is more happier with the angel and the cleaner wrasse In there with him.

Next 2 paychecks, I’ll have that problem fixed and get my mochastrom again.

And the hawkfish has become one of my fave fish. He’s just super cool. I’ll upload pics later on today. I also added in a rose bubble tip. And I never liked the rose , always love the rainbow. But this rose is the prettiest one I’ve ever saw! Im gonna see if can get a good pic of it but pictures just don’t do it justice!

Last update for April
I was gonna wait till mid May when my next update video comes out. But I recently got a fathead sunburst Anthias, I know they are one of the more harder ones to care for because it’s hard to get them to eat forzen. They live copepods and anthropods! I will be adding some form podyour reef starting the Monday following RC. but anyways It wasn’t eating barely when I picked him up. He was $40, compared to $180 on divers den. I took a chance on him, and I got him to eat like a medium shy pig 😂😂! I felt really accomplished this week! He is starting to come out More and more. I feed 3-4 times a day. Morning, when I get home from school and at night. I sometimes give them a snack between their lunch and dinner. But that’s why I need pods so he can eat all day long. I also got a yellow tang from fjwaquarium thanks Dennis! I forgot how shy they were but he is acclimating just fine. And corals I picked up a 8frag pack from Iesd. He has an amazing system and it’s to die for! I made a video about it it comes out this weekend. Either Saturday at 10 am or Sunday at 10 am.
We also have been dosing kalkwasser. We do 1.5 cups a day. Half a cup 3 times A day. It works! My dads ph is at 8.4 and mine is at 8.2. I guess I need to not sleep in my room to her high ph😂. either way it’s still good. I also added another hydra 26! So far looking pretty good!

Lmao just realized how much has happens since last time I did an update. Anyway here are some pics! Enjoy!
