Before picking it up with a grabber, I gently touched the extended tentacles so they would retract making it easier to grab skeleton and not flesh. I barely touched a part of it, and a little section - one polyp - fell off. After I moved the colony to a rock on the sandbed, a couple more fell off. The coral has been healthy and growing, which is why I am moving it. I moved it a second time because it was not stable on the new rock and I didn’t want to mess with it much more trying to position it. While placing it on the current (safer) rock, a 4th polyp fell off. I have put the 4 babies in a place they won’t blow around and am hoping I will have 4 new frags soon 🙂

Anyone else experienced something like this?

Yes, much too often with various corals.

Sounds like the new growth is on a thin skin, so easily broken off.

I've sometimes had the bits grow back together.

All 4 buds are doing fine... I'll probably glue them to small rocks this week
