You think so?

As an Houstonian I’m envious of the Dallas folks. We have some family in Dallas/Fort Worth (Watauga) area so I go visit few times a year.

Houston has gotten very dirty in the last few decades. We moved to Houston from NYC in the 90s and things were so much better back then.

Now all I see is signs/billboards/ and trailers. I guess that’s what happens when you have a huge population growth. [emoji853][emoji853][emoji853]

And don’t forget the huge increase in crime rate.
Haha yeah Houston isn't the best, but at least we're not Dallas.

First I apologize to not responding to the PM’s. I’ll get to them after this post. thank you for reaching out!

I’m so excited to see all the activity in this thread. Thanks for the responses and conversations. We got back yesterday and spent 2 solid days driving around. We were staying with friends in Town Lake so that was our starting point.

We hit Tomball, Conroe, Montgomery, Woodforest, Spring, Magnolia, The Woodlands, Coke’s Crossing, and lots of Cypress. We did not hit Katy as our realtors said that they didn’t think we’d like it and would rather show us other areas. I did have a friend who moved to McKinney and wants to convince me to head towards Dallas. We’d rather not be in Harris county as we see where it’s headed politically but it looks like we can’t have our cake and eat it too. Right now our 3 favorite places are:

#1 High Meadow Ranch (Tomball)
#2 Cypress Creek Ranch (next to Town Lake)
#3 Lakes of Rose Hill (Cypress)
#4 Woodforest (Montgomery I think)

High Meadow Ranch will most likely be out of our budget. It’s more of a dream area with lots of property and room to grow. The only down side (besides the average price) is the schools aren’t rated the best. But we could always try to register our kids at friend’s houses if possible.

Cypress Creek Ranch had beautiful homes and spacious lots. The close proximity to all the busy streets and new construction kind of stinks though and it’s only going to get worse. The houses will most likely be in our budge according to our realtors.

Lakes of Rose Hill would be perfect if the houses had fencing around them. It seems like in Texas there’s a lot of neighborhoods with zero privacy. Coming from CA that’s somewhat off-putting.

Woofforest was really nice as well. Master plan communities are non-existent in CA so it’s a new concept for us. My wife and I grew up in old homes so new track homes seem to be lacking personality and individuality. No offense intended if some of you love that style, it’s just not us. We do have tons of track homes we just haven’t lived in them. Our house is technically a track home but built in 1960 with no HOA. So the neighborhood is very unique looking. Which can be bad if your neighbors.

My work goal is to secure a contract that will allow me to take day trips once a week back to LA. Fly out of IAH in the morning and come back at night. It’ll be a long day but it’ll only be once a week. If I can land that we’ll be in good shape and I can spend lots of time with the family. Hopefully I can bring my business to Houston and expand as well. After speaking with some friends it seems that my business could fill a hole in the Houston area and Texas in general.

I also have wholesale accounts with some of the big brands and distributors as I have a small side business building custom stands. So I could help out with group buys if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

It makes LA look like a clean room! There are homeless encampments and trash everywhere in some cities. I’ve lived here my entire life and have never seen it like this. Just another reason why we’re trying to get out.

If your looking for some help in building stands hit me up. I love working with wood and know my way around a table saw.

Awesome thanks! I’m lazy. I’ve got access to a metal fabrication shop and had them make everything for me including powder coating. I will be bringing out all my wood working gear and setting up a small shop. So far I’ve got a prototype that I’m using for my 90gal which won’t go up until we move. An R2R member helped me come up with some unique features that turned out pretty awesome for the first one which still needs a little work and some sump modifications to fit dual roller mats.

Not sure how you think LA is a clean room compared to Houston. Their homeless population is significantly larger and their politicians limit local law enforcements ability to relocate them.

Oops I said that backwards! The areas I went to were extremely clean.

I'm a realtor, if you are looking to buy let me know, I specialize in Cypress. I just closed a deal in Bridgeland, and live in Towne Lake. Please text me 832 two three 2 1210 and I would be happy to answer any questions no obligations. I am familiar with all the schools as well. I always give something back as well especially to anyone on MARSH in case you do need a realtor.

Hey everyone, or should I say y’all! My family and I packed up and made the drive out here. We arrived July 1st and are currently staying at an Air BNB in Willis. We close on a house in Magnolia in an area called Stagecoach on August 4th, woohoo! It’s a bit remote from what we’re used to but couldn’t be more excited. I have to travel back to the West Coast for work 2 days a week and eventually just single day trips. I’ve gone twice since we moved out here and each time I couldn’t wait to fly back “home.” Everyone has been extremely welcoming and August 4th (closing day) couldn’t come sooner.

I had my tank built over 2 years ago and can finally start setting up once we settle in. None of the gear has even been turned on. Here’s a pic of it for the 1500mi trek. The few things I did not get to was making the skins for the tank stand and retrofit the sump for dual roller mats. I do have accounts with some of the fish and equipment wholesalers in LA and if anyone is interested in possible group buys it might be something I can work out. Thanks for all the kindness and support for a total stranger.

Billy

Looks like you are around 30 miles? North East of Malibu in a nice size city of 65000. I have been to Malibu... Why would you want to move from there? Forest fires?

The crime is bad in LA. That I know. We were warned about that on the plane ride there years ago. Our first night was at a hotel 10 minutes drive from LAX. That night we hung out in the area. Umm not the safest thing to do to make a long story short.. But out by Malibu and area I thought it was heaven on earth.

Welcome to Houston and Welcome to Marsh. We hope we can see your progress as your build your tank. What are some of your favorite fish and corals?
Thanks! Unfortunately I think my 2 dream fish, Ornate Butterfly and Moorish Idol, will not do well in my 90gal. Since this is a family tank I’ll most likely build out softies and maybe some sticks at the top. I’ve got a T5 hybrid setup with 3 Kessil A360x’s so I have plenty of PAR for any kind of tank. Unfortunately I do not have the experience so I will be leaning on this community for help.

My wife are both born and raised in SoCal. Neither of us have lived anywhere else. It was a difficult decision to leave such a beautiful place but it has changed dramatically over the last few years. We primarily left for our kids. We want them in better schools and to experience a life where people are taught manners and not corrupted by crazy teachers that are trying to drill immoral ideals into their innocent minds. I’d be lying if I said politics weren’t a factor also. It used to be that people could have different political beliefs and respect each other. If you’re not a liberal you are silenced and labeled as a conspiracy theorist. You can’t even post links on Nextdoor to official government websites without being censored. It’s crazy. But it’s really about the kids for us. We want a better life for them.

Aren't Moriah Idols only to be kept with at least 1 other Moriah Idol. In 08 we did Malibu to Tiawana... We did the major attractions including a game show and concert for 8 days. We both loved every minute. That trip was my second favorite trip after Italia. I travel lots and you can not beat a Mediterranean climate to live in I think. We met a Lot of people along the way and thought everybody was very nice to us. There is always bad...Lax area is too rough for my liking even though it was an experience and had a good time. I will never go back to Tiawana but it was ok. I hope you like Texas. I really liked their zoo and cruising along the G.O.M.
