Empty V-

If you are going to work a 8-5 job then make sure you are live close by your job otherwise you will be spending couple of hours on the road daily.

We moved from Katy few years ago due to the horrific traffic. I have friends in the woodlands/spring same situation.

Best way to test the theory - jump in your car between 7am - 9am couple of days and drive so you can see Houston nightmarish traffic first hand.

I agree with @RR-MAN 100%! I live in The woodlands, Conroe, Montgomery, Magnolia area...lol (Woodforest) and work in Kingwood. I drive an hour each way, but I love the area I live in Schools are top notch. Family business & my dad owns our building, so no chance its moving anytime soon & we don't really care for Kingwood that much (too congested but good schools).

Non-existent. If Houston is a clock, then you're finding all of them basically between 8-12pm. You're at 4pm.
Sad truth here.

Mods please remove if this isn't allowed.

There are a few that are around the south area but generally I feel they aren't really worth it.

All about fish - Owner is rude. Has yelled at me twice to hurry up and buy stuff. Everything inside is overgrown and not well kept. Plenty of aptasia growing throughout tank.

The Fish Bowl - mixed salt/fresh store. It's really not bad, just doesn't have anywhere the quantity of the Northern stores have. Bought my powder brown tang here... It had velvet. Although I feel all stores are plagued with disease.

Aquarium Design Group - Fresh / Salt mixed store but they seem to focus on fresh more. Decent quality for basic salt stuff.

Really for me if I have to drive 20 minutes to ADG or The Fish Bowl I rather drive 30 to Oceanlife Aquarium.

Another league city guy. True that we don't have lfs like the west side does. But i have a few fish from the fishbowl without issue. Rainforest pets is not a marine fish place, but they personally own tanks, have a related maintenance business, have ordered supplies i asked for, and keep frozen food. Aquazoo is mostly freshwater, but i like it in there and they have salt, food, other supplies and some marine tanks. I think pandemic might have put a hold on fish fanatix plans, not sure. And shockingly, the petco down here has nice stock. I watched the manager training an employee on maintenance while i was picking up dog food and came away pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a desert as well for a while, but it's not so bad.

For some of us, it goes back to the days of the Houston Oilers... hating on the Cowboys was a MUST, lol!

As so many others have said, the Houston metro area is huge, and there's lots of traffic during rush hour, etc. If you and/or your wife know where you'll be working, then definitely take that into account. Even if it means having to drive farther to get to your favorite fish store, a long drive several (?) times a month is better than a long daily commute. Regarding schools, "Spring" can be confusing. There are Spring, Tx mailing addresses on both sides of I-45. The east side is where most of Spring ISD is. West of 45, you will be in Klein ISD, Conroe ISD, and Tomball ISD (all 3 are zoned beyond "Spring, Tx" addresses...). Klein, Tomball, Conroe, as well as Cy-Fair, Katy, and even Magnolia are good districts. Your realtor can probably help you out a lot with school info as well.

Sorry, I just realized the Dallas question didn't come from the original poster.

@sneezebeetle, all this time I thought LFS stood for "local fish store"!

Yes, take this advice. I was living at the intersection of 45/beltway 8 on the SE side. I took a job in Katy at Texas Children’s about 5 years ago. That 1.5 hour commute started to wear on me after a few years. If there were no traffic it would have been easy, but we all know that this is never the case in Houston. Find your job and try to pick a decent area that’s close. An area that has everything you need within 15 minutes or less.

Dallas folks are very stuck up and condescending.

You think so?

As an Houstonian I’m envious of the Dallas folks. We have some family in Dallas/Fort Worth (Watauga) area so I go visit few times a year.

Houston has gotten very dirty in the last few decades. We moved to Houston from NYC in the 90s and things were so much better back then.

Now all I see is signs/billboards/ and trailers. I guess that’s what happens when you have a huge population growth. [emoji853][emoji853][emoji853]

And don’t forget the huge increase in crime rate.
