I'm thinking about doing a wood wall around my tank and I'd use a nail gun on a compressor to hang the boards. I would completely cover the tank with clear acrylic sheets, just like I did when I redid my floors. This means the fish couldn't jump, and I'm obviously not worried about the corals, but I wonder if you can harm whatever type of ears these fish have. From what I understand, noise can travel much better in water and I'm worried about harming them to some degree. Does anyone have any more insight into this?

Excuse the dirty, dirty glass, but here's the wall in question.

Tank looks good Cody, as far as working around the tank you could build the frame and slide into place? Or you could move the fish while you work if you can catch them. I know sound waves travel in water pretty far but not sure if sound would penetrate the glass as well unless directly hit. I really haven't thought about it.

Yeah I just found some old articles where people were playing drums and electric guitars around their tanks for years and never had issues. I think that the glass, plus I'll put some foam around the tank, should help a lot. It's not terribly loud, but as some of yall know, a compressor nail gun makes a lot of noise.

I suppose they would have already been deaf after i took a hammer drill to my floors in October.

That wall is perfect for an accent wall, plus it would prevent me from having to paint around the tank. The fumes from drying paint worry me more than anything. Luckily, I can cover the tank with acrylic sheets, fill in any gaps with masking tape, and let the sump in the fish room provide good, clean air to breath.

I never did the tank in the wall thing cus I am afraid of mold with all that high humidity back there. I once had an snow flake eel. It died when I had rock music playing loud in the room.... was it the sound or vibration that killed him???

Are you just talking about putting wood on the wall around you tank? Like some old barnwood or something? Like an accent wall? I have a battery powered nail gun if you want to borrow it. Much more quiet than a regular nail gun & compressor.

What sized nails does it shoot? I was just gonna shoot 2" braids.

And yeah, that's what I'm planning as of now. I'll use fench boards with a medium stain. It's just an idea for now, but if I were to make an accent wall, then that's the one.

I use Ryobi with Rechargeable battery, it's quite and does the job with up to 2" brad nail. But, I am near Katy area.
