So I picked up a new torch the other day, green with blue tips, very nice. I put it in my tank and it won't open up. I have 2 other torches in the same tank in the same location that are opened up just fine. So I moved this one to an area with more flow, same deal.... just won't extend. Today I'm moving it to an area with almost no flow to see what will happen.

Anyone have a green torch with blue tips that has some advice for me? Or anyone keep torches that can give me some pointers?

1) Did you dip the torch?
2) What you used to dip the torch?
3) Depending on the torch, it make not like direct flow

What do you know of the system it came from? Did you see it fully extended in that system? It may be irritated. Personally I dip all incoming euphylia in Iodine (Lugals or Tropic Marin) before I put in my system.

I saw it before I bought it, open and looked nice. I did not dip it. I bought another torch from the same system & it opened up right away and looks great. I can post pics tomorrow.

Looking a little worse today. I placed it in an area of very little flow yesterday. This morning I turned off my mp10 to see what it would do with almost no flow at all in the tank. Here are some pics from this morning of the little torch & the others in the tank as well. 2 torch 1 hammer.

If it produces brown jelly it will quickly wreck havoc rampantly. Chemiclean is a widely used med that people use, at least in the mushroom world, to dip mushrooms to attempt to save the actual mushroom but also as a preventative to avoid its spread to the rest of the tank. Disclaimer: I cannot guarantee that this will work with your particular situation and/or cause problems with your tank; howerev I know first hand that it definitely works for me. I’ve seen major major melting shrooms turn around, brown jelly disappearing, stop of spread and complete healing of mushroom. Very different coral but this is anecdotal experience.

Dip it in what? I have revive & an old bottle of lugols. If lugols, how much?
Lugols is best for BJD. There should be dosing instructions on the bottle.

I use iodine (from the first aid aisle if I dont have any of the Tropic Marin as it is cheaper). There is a good youtube video on dosing, I will try and track it down for you.

yep, just watched that one and a couple of others... heading to dip it now... we'll see.
Good Luck!

Looks like you have all the torches in the same area. You may want to consider dipping all the torches just in case it is BJD or some other bacteria [emoji848]

So far it did not like that dip.... it pulled all the way in and hasn't come back out. Just put it in another cup to rinse off.... we'll see what happens. I wonder if it wants more flow.
