I think I have velvet in my reef thank! I was thinking at first it was ich but yesterday my blue tang died, I have two clown fish that have white spots and a naso tang that is looking pretty rough not swimming much this morning. He was last night but did not eat. My scopas tang is swimming and eating fine but I have noticed more of brownish spots on him. I don’t have a QT tank at the moment will be getting one this afternoon and put everyone in there and treat with copper? I have order cupramine, not sure if it’s the best thing to treat with? I’m still doing research on this as I’m a newbie and never heard about it. [emoji2362]

Sorry to hear that. I think copper is your best be with this.

It's interesting to see what the first victims were. When I had a couple outbreaks of velvet, my blue tang and clown were the ones that never got it, even though I was not able to catch them to put them in QT. You just never know who is going to be the hardiest fish.

Whether it is Ich or Velvet, treating with copper in a QT will eliminate both. The DT itself should be left fallow (fishless) for 6 weeks at 81F.

As you are transferring the fish from DT to QT, a 30 minute peroxide bath will provide temporary relief if this is Velvet: Hydrogen Peroxide – Marine Fish Diseases and Treatment

Quick update

Lost a naso tang, 2 clowns, and a royal gamma. Everyone is in quarantine with coppersafe since Friday evening. I have notice darker blotches on the scopas I can only see them when he is the lighter color. I really hope I can keep these guys alive. Keeping fingers crossed [emoji1696]. Anyone have any input on the scopas marks? 1904f5189b064647cbf32cd031aad870.jpg

Thank you all!

So relieved with our new 6 week fallow period. We always suspected the higher temps would speed it up, but now we have the study. 🤗🤗
