Thinking of swapping my two Gyre 150s for to mp40s. What are your thoughts and do you think the two MP40s are the right size for my 200 gallon?

[h=1]Thanks![/h]

The Gyre vs the MP40 mmmmm!
As you know the gyre produces a different flow pattern than the MP40 and when positioned right one Gyre is enough for a 200G tank.
The MP40's has more of a channel flow and you need several of them to have enough flow.
If you want similar flow through out your whole tank without dead areas you need at least 3 MP40 QD's
The OD's are stronger and more quiet than the generation before as you can set them at 100% and won't hear them.
The older version of the MP40's if set on 100% you will hear them, when set to 70/80% they have less noise but you'll need four of the older WES generation.
Two MP60's will be better either way the new QD or the older version, plenty of flow through out the whole tank and if position right you can run them on 50%.

Thanks for the replies. My Gyres seem to have lost power/flow. I am going to give them a cleaning and rebuild them with the now better replacement parts to see what that does. It just seems to me when I view videos of reefs with the Vortechs the flow pattern seem to be more random and better.

The new rugged propeller will significantly increase your flow. When I replace the propeller I had to decrease it by 30% and it is still stronger. Not sure if you have the icecap module but with that you can create your own flow pattern to what you are interested in via apex

I have tried the Gyre, include the new propellers and with the Apex control box but for a high tech full SPS tank I went back to the Vortech pumps.
Have running 3 QD's at 100% and my corals couldn't be happier.

I've seen your beautiful tank so it speaks for itself. What was the difference you notice since switching back?

Better growth and nutrient export through out the whole tank.
I have hardly any dead spot in the tank.

Are you running multiple Gyres? How are your coral doing with your setup? Did the Icecap module improve things? I guess what I'm asking is what has been you observation since you incorporated the module? I would rather not spend the extra money on Vortechs if the module will improve the performance of the Gyre.

Thanks!

Yes I am running 2 gyres. The icecaps are mainly for controllability. It allows me to sync the gyres and change different flow patterns throughout the day which maybe what you are interested in. Whether that benefits the corals or not I couldn't tell. i have had simple setups with a just a power head and rotating water deflector do much better than this system.

Three Mp40's would be perfect like diesel said above.

I ran two Mp40's @ 100% plus two tunze 6085 on a 200/g.

mp60's probably overkill plus much bigger in size.

Did you have any issue programming the gyre with the Icecap modules? For me, one pump stays at 25% and the other at 85%. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

With the icecap the lowest setting it will run is 20%. Are you trying to run them in antisync mode? If so you will need to create 2 virtual outlets for them. With the ramp mode I found that you can't use the if time .... To ....Here are my profiles for the ramp in antisync if it helps. But you can create whatever you want. Standing waves gyres etc. ... Virtual outlet 1 Set ON If time 23:00 to 07:00 Then OFF. If Time 11:00 to 19:20 Then OFF. Virtual outlet 2 Osc 000:00/001:00/001:00 Then ON If Time 23:00 to 07:00 Then OFF If Time 11:00 to 19:20 Then OFF Left Gyre If Outlet virtual 1 = ON Then RampUp If Outlet Virtual 2 = ON Then RampDown Right Gyre If Outlet Virtual 1 = ON Then RampDown If Outlet Virtual 2= ON Then RampUp. Then just create 2 profiles and set it to ramp. With one going from 20 to 45 and the other from 45 to 20

Thanks Vooooo, I'll attempt to mimic yours since the program from Coralvue seems to keep one pump at 25% and one at 85%

Hey Vooooo, I broke down you profile so that I can recreate it:

"Virtual outlet 1.
Set ON If time 23:00 to 07:00 Then OFF.
If Time 11:00 to 19:20 Then OFF
Virtual outlet 2.
Osc 000:00/001:00/001:00 Then ON
If Time 23:00 to 07:00 Then OFF
If Time 11:00 to 19:20 Then OFF
Left Gyre
If Outlet virtual 1 = ON Then RampUp
If Outlet Virtual 2 = ON Then RampDown
Right Gyre
If Outlet Virtual 1 = ON Then RampDown
If Outlet Virtual 2 = ON Then RampUp.

Then just create 2 profiles and set it to ramp. With one going from 20 to 45 and the other from 45 to 20"

Why is there OSC code in virtual outlet 2 but not outlet 1?

Thanks!

virtual outlet 1 is just to switch to the ramp profile at the given time. only with the ramp profile you would create that outlet otherwise you can normally use the if time statement. also you may already know but just a remainder to set your ramp time to whatever you have in the osc.
