Hi all

I’m interested in the idea of building 600G tank from 1” or 1.5” acrylic panels. I haven’t had any experience working with something this big. I’m looking for hire someone to work on the weekend with my build. Any pointer is greatly appreciated

Do you have a supplier for acrylic that thick?

I’m getting them from Nation wide plastic in Houston. If I’m not careful, I can have 600G of salt water on the floor. Can’t be good.

And how do you plan on cutting the acrylic?

I’m planning to have all my panel pre-cut and edges prep. I will need assistant im weld. I realize Any mistakes in welding will definitely cause a catastrophic leak. I heard Aero shield plastic do sale, pre cut and prep acrylic panels. I will talk to them soon. I also plan to make custom dumps and stand cover with acrylic as well

Have you ever welded acrylic before?

I welded some 1/4” thick for a small ATO nothing big. I saw youtube on pin method. Doesn’t look that hard but I haven’t done it before

For a 600 gallon tank your welding will have to be SPOT ON. Welding is very hard. One little bubble can cost you. Are you planning to add a eurobrace?

It's not that simple and you're about to waste a lot of money on acrylic. Anyone that knows how to build that tank correctly is already for hire. They're called tank builders and they're not cheap, and for good reason.

I HIGHLY recommend you hire a proffesional tank builder. Building a tank that large will require immense amount of skill and will most likely result in heartbreak. The acrylic itself will cost you several Gs. To see the process you need to go through check out some of Troylee’s build threads on Reef2Reef.

Yes. I’m planning to add eurobrace. I will cut 96”x48”x1” panel for eurobracing. I think it will be stronger compared to 6” acrylic plank. My tank dimension is 96”x48”x30” height. All 1” thick

Yes. I understand the difficulty of the task. That’s why I’m looking to hire a pro to help out. Any contact or pointer is greatly appreciated.
Matyas, Let me check out the build thread in reef2reef. Thanks a bunch

I wish you luck. This is far from an easy process. You may need weldon 42 for that big a tank.

Living color in Orlando is actually reasonable. I got a quote last year for a 96x48x24 and it was $3800 plus another 600 for shipping

What you're looking for is a professional tank builder. If you hire them to build that tank for you then the cost is what every other vendor will charge you. A tank of that magnitude requires someone that has a skill set developed by working Monday through Friday 9-5 building those sized tanks specifically. Not to mention, folks that are good with acrylic don't turn over those trade secrets readily nor cheaply. And all of this is before we even consider the cost of the proper tools for this whole endeavor. I still don't understand exactly what you're looking for with this thread.
