At what points do you guys start to replace your filters? I just swapped new filters in last month (12/1) and my TDS is already creeping back up. It's at 4 right now. I have a full set of filters waiting to go in, but I really feel every month is a bit too often.

Which cartridges did you replaced and how many gallons of ro/di water did you make?

My RODI only puts out about 80 gallons of 0 tds before it starts climbing.
Im planning on putting another RODI cartridge as well as getting the PSI booster pump to make the DI resin last longer.

Just some ones rated well off Amazon iirc. Probably about 500 gallons?

I have a four stage AquaFX Barracuda 100GPD unit that would go 4 months before I would see an increase in TDS when I purchased replacement filters from this one seller. My last purchase was from a different seller and it was only 1 month in and I was getting a reading of 3. The only difference I see from these 2 sellers were their DI resin cartridge. My tap water comes in at 363.

Hmm, I imagine there are differences from the sellers. I am using color change BRS DI Resin... and it's about 80% not color changed.

I think it's either the RO unit or the other pre-filters. I am going to replace both today (hopefully).

Mike:
Something may be wrong. You and I are about 5 minutes away and I get about 500 gallons before it goes to 1 TDS.

I use the water made at our office in Katy.
What RODI system are you using? You have a booster installed?

Out here in Frelsburg my water well is 384 on one TDS meter and 285 on a newer one. I thought my RODI meter said 350 coming in but now I wonder how accurate any of them are. It says 13 after the RODI and before the DI media. Since it is well water I think the CO2 is pretty high BUT after I get the booster pump and 3 stage DI installed I will see how fast I go through media.
I REALLY do not want to do a 3rd barrel just to degass the CO2 prior to running through the RODI but if I have too...

keep in mind the results you were getting last month (or before) could drastically change this month depending on a lot of factors... for example, a refinery explosion or fire where the smoke or fallout goes over a watershed. Your utility company may have to change the way they treat the water resulting in your resin taking the biggest hit.

Mike-try changing out your sediment filter more often (first canister) to help out with exhaustion of DI Resin. Since these are way cheaper, try changing it before that 80 gallons and see if that helps.

I changed out all the filters before my last batch and still only got eighty to a hundred gallons before the TDS climbed. I only have one di canister and PSI is only 35.

That's seems extremely low Mike. Not too efficient at all. Have you recalibrated your meter lately?

Yeah, i thought so too. If you're referring to the pressure meter, no. But I do have a handheld TDS meter that confirms the reading from the RODI system.

There are a minimal of three spots you should check and know you TDS. The first is before the water enters your RO membrane, second is after the RO membrane. You will want to see what the membrane rejection rate should be. I.e. if it should have 98% rejection rate and your incoming TDS is 348 then you should be getting less than 6 TDS through. Once the rejection rate gets so low that is it costing more to replenish the DI resign than to replace to RO membrane you should replace the membrane. The last place to check the TDS is after The DI. The water coming out the other end should be 0 TDS for the new water quality.
