My gem has grown into a beast. This fish is 7" and was very beautiful. Right up until I caught it ripping the tentacles off of my elegance. As much as I like him, I like my elegance more. So he is going to the 20g QT until next year when I get my other tank set up. Such a nice display fish though...I'm sad.

What is it with tangs and corals? My hippo eats my candy canes, my yellow tang eats my acans, and now this guy eating my elegance??

Bet your candy canes grow faster than your blue hippo can eat [emoji13] especially in your tank lol

That's the only reason the hippo and gem aren't bunking together. The candy canes repair themselves in a day or two.

So much for tangs being "reef" safe lol... I have read about the hippo's, though Zebrasoma kind of throws me for a loop.

What if you build a little eggcrate enclosure for the elegance and see what happens after a couple of months - hopefully it behaves. What a beautiful fish.

Yeah it just depends on what he wants more. I would personally let the elegance go.

The elegance was one of my first corals I got when I got into the hobby. I have grown it from about 3" to 14" so I'm a little partial to it. Maybe I can move the elegance to the new 130 when it gets set up and then the gem can go back to the 400. Or maybe I'll sell the gem for the right price. Problem is I bought it back when they were $2k. Wonder if there's a market for gems this size?

I'm so sad, but I'm sure you'll find a taker if you have to let him go.
