when all is running I get a temp of 83 without the heater on.... I turned the pump off today and it went down to 79 I am worried the the 83 is too high.. can someone confirm to me that 83 is OK... or should I check into a chiller... 75 gallon tank..... I am going to put a fan on the sump as suggested... see if that lowers the temp.... at this point am I worrying too much?

You can run fine on at 83 if you maintain consistently but, there's always a 'but', it really depends on what you plan on keeping.

Put a fan on your sump or raise your lights off the top a bit.

My nano often hits 82~83 but it is doing great.

I would be afraid of 83. You have no safe zone IMO.
IF you are hitting 83 now what about in the summer? Does your house stay this temperature in the summer?

Also the thermometer plays a large role.
I can read 80 81 or 82 , just depends on which thermometer I want to trust.

I have a electronic thermometer...maybe I should pick amanual oneup as well.... This tank is at my shop.. so the AC is running all the time... consistant temp in the building of around 72-74.. I just put a fan on the sump... I cranked everything up and I will see how it is doing temp wise in the morn...

If i leave my room completely close the heat builds up and my temp goes all the way up to 80, but otherwise i try to keep at 77.5-78.5

Temps on reefs can range from 76 to at times over 86 degrees. While 83 is a tad on the warmer side, it's not really terrible. Large temp swings (say 4-5 degrees) arent that big a deal either if they're usual, but if it's just a one-off thing then corals may not respond as well as you'd hope.

I'd say you're not bad off, but a fan over the sump may help as much as 2-3 degrees if you have good circulation.
