Planning to get a 90 gal planet tank. BB has some good prices on them. Trying to decide between standard internal, ghost, or something else. I haven’t chow many holes and what size planets standard internals have, so if anyone could answer that’d be great. Also, what about buying just a standard tank and having someone local help with drilling and putting in a ghost or coast to coast?

One concern of mine is tank placement against the wall. I purchased a nice stand and canopy with nice molding, I(and my wife) might want it as close to the wall as possible.

Open to all suggestions. This tank build is a long way out, so just trying to figure things out.

If your going planet you can have them do it. I would for sure...

Instead of a ghost/coast2coast type (internal weir/external box) you might look at having the glass cut on the back with a external box.

Not sure if that is clear but you get rid of the internal weir box (its all on the back wall of the tank). like this...

That would be awesome but I still have to keep the price of this tank reasonable if I wish to stay in this hobby(wife). A standard internal 90 gal planet is $350 at bb. Add ~50 for black backing, and ~150 for ghost. So 550 if I went ghost with the black backing I’m thinking of getting. Haven’t asked about coast to coast. Your option looks awesome but I imagine that will be pushing the budget. Thanks for the input though.

I’m still almost thinking of getting the standard internal overflow. Would like to hear opinions against it.

I went with a custom internal weir/external box from modular marine but on a 90g you can probably just purchase an off the shelf one to meet your needs. The have urban or whomever drill the holes.

3600 gph LOW PROFILE Overflow Box with REMOVABLE WEIR

I would probably look to have them customize external box for 1" plumbing rather than 1.5".. You don't need that kind of flow with 90g. I just like longer internal weir boxes.

Biggest one is most obvious. It takes up real estate in the tank. But if your willing to sacrifice that then I can't think of another other than length of the weir.

Yea I figured that. Internal is all I’ve ever had, and it’s never really bothered me, just see people getting all these different overflows. I’ve had a 60 cube for the last 3 years. So 90 is going to be a big increase in real estate as it is.

I’d do an external overflow for sure. Internal takes away space inside the tank and adds a bigger eye sore.

I’d have the tank cut in the back like mentioned or go with a ghost type overflow. Small box inside with the larger box outside. Both being at the top of the tank. Nothing running down low. You’ll thank yourself later.
