HLLE from the look of it. One of the worse I've seen. Bad diet and/or poor water quality. Need vitamins and trace elements badly. Pump full of vitamins and nori and remove any activated carbon (low quality carbon dust gets on/in the fish and can hurt their immune system in several ways).

oof, i've didn't know it could cause the fins to start receding in like that. I saw erosion along its lateral line. Didn't know the condition could affect the fins as well. Good to know

I have a Tang, Moe-Gibley, who looks like this. His condition however is due to being bullied by a couple damsels in a small tank before being rescued by another Marshian. He is by far the best fish Ive ever had :)

Did you say that just to make me smile? I'm glad he's doing well. I'm so happy he found a good home. I thought about him when I saw that picture.

A tang that bad might not recover, but it can still live a long time if the cause is corrected. My tangs used to always get like that and only live 2-3 years before I started feeding Nori. The last one I had that got that way was saved when I started feeding Nori. It never got its fins or lateral line area back, but it lived another 8 years (on top of the 2-3 years it took to get like that) until it died from a velvet outbreak.

Haha! Pic reminded me of him as well. Moe-Gibley is doing great! He is even making friends with the clowns and a dwarf angel, he's living his best life :)
