Hi, new to the hobby in Houston. Recommendations on where I should be looking for high quality cured live rock with no nasty critters and good live sand, both local and/or online?

Same with water...I'm considering just purchasing RO/DI and Salt water locally if I can find a reputable LFS in Houston, thanks!

you can go to any lfs to get rock. most have them in a tub where you can pick the pieces you want.

when i first got started, i bought rock from liveaquaria.com. you don't get to pick your rock, but the rock there is cheap even after shipping.

you could also get dried rock like marco rocks or something like that.

aquarium world on 290, i buy my salt and fresh/topoff water from them.
fresh: 50cents/gal
salt: $1/gal
5 gal empty bucket with lid $3
5 gal jug empty $13
I went with the buckets, I have several.

Thanks for helpful replies everyone. A couple of my friends at work recommend I see Kevin at All About Fish down on I-45 south near Almeda mall, his rock and water are supposed to be right on target and clean rock - no bad hitch-hikers.

I am very interested in the base rock from Reef Cleaners though, I like the idea of base clean rock and seeding it myself.

the advantage of that rock over a lot of dead base rock, is that you wont have a load of dead stuff that'll decompose on it

3rd coast corals have a load of tukani in as well taht theyve had cycling
