Which would you choose Vortech MP40's or Maxspect XF350's or even IceCap 4k's? (1 Viewer)

I've sold my MP60’s they are just too powerful for my tank 72”x24x30.

I have two existing Maxspect 230's and two existing MP40QD's.

What am I going to replace those MP60's with?

2x Vortech MP40QD’s
Or
2x Maxspect 350’s with a hydros wave engine
Or
2x IceCap 4k gyre's with a hydros wave engine

thoughts?

I have 2 MP40s and 2 Maxspect gyres in my tank. Honestly I really like the flow that I get from the gyres. I get really good surface agitation as well.

Cool.
In addition to the two MP60’s I have two mp40’s on the back wall and two xf150’s.

The xf150’s are old but even new I don’t think are strong enough on their own on the ends of the tank which is why I was thinking the 350’s and putting the 150’s vertically in the corner on the back wall.

or like I said just replace the MP60’s with MP40’s.

just want to make sure I don’t end up with dead spots in tank

Yeah, as we talked Yesterday, I like the idea of mounting vertically. I am considering adding two 350s myself in the same location by the overflows or two MP40s down low so I don't see any wires. The 350s will provide better spread overall for the intended purpose, but my OCD just can't stand seeing two more wires in there.

I would just add that maybe both would be better...? I like my gyres for surface agitation, but they pale in comparison to the detritus pulling effect the vortechs offer. If you run the gyres alone for awhile, then slap a vortech in there, you’ll see what I mean. Unfortunately my vote is “yes.” (LOL)

Edit*** I decided to stick with both, Steve.

No experience with the gyres, but the MP40's really produce a ton of flow. Mine can't be turned above 60% for very long without throwing sand all over & splashing water out of my tank. I crank them to 100% for a few seconds every week just to stir things up.

Hmmmm maybe I should pull the two MP40’s off the back wall. I can’t hardly turn them up either. Above 20% they start pushing all the sand at the front to the back.

So 350’s at ends of tank, MP40’s at end of tank, xf150’s vertical in corner of back wall or horizontal on back wall. ADFEE840-A37E-4783-8C4C-DDD57CB58456.png

No, just the controller pad it came with. Its pretty easy to set up and use my apex for feed mode, just turning off the outlet

I changed the criteria a little bit. Looking for feedback from those that have used either or used both or used them in combination.

I was just going to post about this.

I have a 150 (48” tank). I originally got two gyre 330s as a starting point. I was underwhelmed by their output almost immediately, even clean I could ramp them up to 100 without really stirring up my sandbed. I heard about gyre/vortech combination somewhere so I tried that.

I like it a lot. The combination gives you the surface disturbance of the gyre and the flexibility of the Mp40 programming, placement.

Since I’m an equipment hound, I recently had a chance to upgrade from 330 gyre to 350 and I love them. Wider flow pattern and a higher upper end on flow, I keep them around 25%.

(If you get maxspect, get the icv6. Its $49 and it makes adjusting them soooo much easier.)

So you aren’t gonna like this but I’d upgrade the gyres to 330s at least and get mp40s. [emoji47]
