It just showed up today on my tang these black patches on its sides, i looked online and it said that it was ich. I've never had a sick fish before so I dont really know what to do. I've been looking online and from what ive seen so far it says that the ich tangs get is a different kind that other fish get and it wont spread to my other fish, and they say to just leave the tang in the tank with the other fish and just feed it food thats soaked in garlic, is this true?? I dont want all my other fish to get sick and die. I noticed the tang was acting a little bit odd yesterday but it still ate and was swimming around so I didnt think it was anything but today it has those patches and its just staying at the bottom of the tank by the sand bed and seems to be breathing heavy. Other things ive seen is to do a freshwater dip, or setup a different tank and treat it with medicine. Just not sure what to do.

If there are no white or black dots then it is probably not ick (either cryptocarion irritans or turbellarian flatworms, genus Paravortex).

How long have you had the fish? Did you add any new fish recently?

look up Mycobacteriosis

If that is what it is (and I'm not saying it is but some of the pictures look similar) there is no cure and YOU need to be really careful as it is transferable to humans.

I've had the tang for over a year, and yea added new fish, wasnt planning on getting anymore fish but my husband bought some and added them. 2 diamond gobys and a strawberry dottyback. one of the gobies died though it swam into one of the anenomes in my tank. the other 2 are fine though, not having any problems. Guess the new fish wasnt a good idea. What should I do? I dont have a separate tank to put the tang in and dont really have any room to set up a separate tank anywhere

I was looking and from the pictures i saw of the first 2 things you said it could be it doesnt look like either of those. It does look a lot like the Mycobacteriosis, so should i quit putting my hands in the tank for now until i know for sure what the tang has or can you only get it from touching the fish? I've been putting my hands in the tank the past couple days messing with corals

Can rose anenomes do that much damage? The tang died, people on another forum said it looked like uronema. But really dont know what it could be, it didnt have any open sores on it, just those large black patches and it went from normal to covered in that black stuff and dead within a day

Well the tang definitely wasnt killed by the anemone, one of my clowns is now laying on the sand bed breathing heavy and it was fine yesterday, so whatever this is only takes a day for it to affect them. The clown doesn't have any spots on it or anything that i can see. Dont know what to do besides take it out of the tank and hope my other fish dont catch whatever this is.

Wendy I'm sorry to hear about your clown having it too. I know it sucks. I lost four wrasses that had been in QT for a month with no evidence of any disease or parasite. Then one died and then less than a week later the other three died. Never figured out what it was. I would say that if you end up losing the other fish let the tank sit fallow (no fish for 3 to 4 months), most parasites will die off in that time period. Just take care of the corals and nems.

Is the white on its head normal? Did either of the clowns have any white/slime coating on them?

that showed up on the tang the day he died, the clowns that died have absolutely no signs of anything on them. They looked perfectly normal, no spots or anything like the tang had
