Very nice little tanks.

The standard dx has t 2x24w compact fluorescent bulbs. Good for softies and lps. Upgrade to the maxijet 1200 vs 900. A k-nano would be fine. I wouldn't bother with a skimmer on a tank that small, just use a bag of chemi-pure and keep up with your water changes.

+1 on keeping up with water changes and also keep it topped off. Evaporation in smaller tanks is fairly quick and causes more problems compared to larger aquaria. Good luck with the set up

It is best to top it off with RO/DI water. If you don't have an RO filter the you can buy distilled water to top off. You top off with pure water because that is all that evaporates.
