I have 250 w watt metal halides, and am new to this. How long should I expect them to last? what's the difference between the 10k and 14k? How do I know when they nee replacing? My brain has looked like there is something wrong for the past few days, and I wonder if it is the light?
Thanks.

MH should last 8-12 months, depending on many factors. 10K are good growth/white to yellow color.14K more bluish/average for growth. How long have you ran them, how many hours per day? I don't know if you could actually see a difference, especially if you see the tank every day, just a gradual change.

Well I run them about 6-8 hours a day, I have had the tank for about 3 months, but I bought it second hand, and the guy had it for about a year. I don't notice anything in the lights, but I do notice the brain doesn't open up the way it used to, and that was my thinking. What is the main difference in MH and T-5?

Also, another thing I notice is my sun coral, that never used to open with the light on, now opens up a bit more with the light on. Another question is my sebae anenome has lost the purple tips on its tentacles, could this be more sign that the light is bad, the peculiar thing is it is under a cave, when I got it, I placed it on a rock, and it moved until it went under a little cave I have.

The sun coral shouldn't respond too much to light, might didn't. It would open up when it was hungry, lights or no lights. The anenome does need some light, but will usually find it's happy place. Old lights can be difficult to identify, if in doubt, change em out.

Well, what do you think about the anenome, loosing its colored tips, but it's moved to where it wants to be.
as far as the light, I think I will change it. so what is the difference in the 10k to the 14k? Thanks.
