I've been perplexed this week. For three weeks my tank used about 20ppm of calcium per week (lightly stocked fairly new tank). The past two weeks the calcium rises while Alk decreases. Ive been dosing two part Alk to keep it above 9.5 and that takes about 1 ounce of soda ash solution every three days. But my calcium has slowly risen t back to 500 over two weeks with no dosing. Why would this occur?

Everything appears to be happy in my tank. It's a fairly young tank so mostly frags but the Hollywood stunner is growing like a weed and several acro frags are encrusting nicely and birds nests are thriving so I expected to see some usage.

to me seem like in every new system that the alk is always suck up first and cal remaim steady or increase. it's doing that in all my systems. I'm adding alk to cal 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio.. nothing to worry about.

Same here my tank is at about 460 cal just under 8 alk and 1280 mag. Every thing is growing great but I dose alk and mag more than calcium. I figure if all parameters are kept stable than there is no harm done.
