I have a few questions regarding lighitng. I am trying to find a cheap lighting solution here and I have looked at Lowes and Home Depot to find some of the shop lights. Theyre not a bad price but are ugly and am going to need a canopy if I am to use them so here is the question...I ma sure they carry Mh or Vho lighting and am thinking to use those instead of buying form a LFS or online. I am sure it would save alot of money. I know that a lot of people will say that isnt a good idea but I am not totally convinced of why. Why is lighting so expensive anyway? Either this or maybe some of you have some old lighting sets you are wanting to get rid of??

some of the ballasts they sell at home depot will work for your tank (fluorescent lighting). I don't think they sell metal halide ballasts at those stores but they may. I know they sell mecury vapor ballasts for outside lighting. TexasReefer made a post about his friend that has metal halide ballasts for fairly cheap and even has mogul sockets etc. Maybe check that out.
