Hey

Im building the frag tank stand now and just quick question. The frag tank is iis 24" x 24" by 8 " tall. I will build a small hood for it as well as its going to act as storage so I can fit anything I want. Curious what people have used with great results for tanks this shallow.

Im running metal halides on my large tank and leds on my 60 if that helps anything in determining the lights as I know it helps to have the same type of light for your corals when transitioning them.

I like to run generally the same lighting over the frag tank as I do the main display so I don't get color changes or anything like that.
I have the 72" hamilton cebu sun over my display so I recently got a 24" cebu for my new frag tank.
I used to run a Radion Pro over the frag tank just because I already had it but I didn't like how sps would change on me.

Yea I run 3 cabo 250 watt MH over my 300 and the LPS are loving it. How far up did you place your light on the frag tank? Im just worried that the 175 w could burn out the corals. The tank is only 8 inches deep so just worried about that.

If you are concentrating more on LPS go with LEDs no reason to go MH. This is coming from a guy who runs nothing but MH BUT I do 99% SPS. :D

I'm so impressed with LEDs these days I know I will have LEDs on my tank in the near future.

I used to run leds on the 300 but when I had the whites burn out in one of the lights I sad screw it and went MH. Just from my personal exp, they seem to love the MH a lot more (I mostly love the frogspawn, hammer and torch and have a lot of different branches of them). I want to get into SPS but they seem to die quickly in both tanks where as softies and LPS are thriving (no idea lol)

I have 2 Kessil a150 15k's over my 20 gallon long and am absolutely in love with their performance in my tank... Mostly Zoas and Palys (hundreds) with a few LPS and SPS here and there.
Only thing i would do differently is get the new controllable a160's but for the most part Kessil is the bomb
For your shallow tank though controllability may be a must as you don't have much height to make a tiered frag rack

Does your Kessil produce as much algae as mine does? I have it for my 20 gallon side tank thats just for clowns/anemones and I have to clean it every day. Its nuts, I love the color though.
