I need to purchase RO DI unit - what would you recomend? I have a RO unit under the sink (was there when I moved in) with a tank. I would like to remove this unit and fit the new unit to the storage tank

They're all pretty much equal, go with a place that has good customer service. Among bulkreefsupply, melevsreef, and buckeyefieldsupply I would choose the last.

I like buckeye for ro di membranes, prefilters, and carbon filters and housings. I like spectrapure for silicate busters and di cartridges.

I would get a storage tank from tractor supply to store your water in.

If you let me know the name of your water utility I can try to look it up for you.

Do buckeye, service after the purchase is A+. Prices are the best for quality equipment.

Can you? sure.

But as always, the devil's in the details - in that not all RO systems are created equal, nor are all DI resins, nor are DI housings (e.g., horizontal vs vertical).

If you are planning to go this route might be best if you talked in greater detail with a knowledgeable person about the system you have and an appropriate DI addition to the system.

o.k., a simple question. How are they controlled ? If I want enough water to do a water change of approx 5 gal per week, is it electrically controlled to only run when energized ? Or maybe a valve that controls pressure to manually make it run only when you want ? I have seen some with a pressurized tank attached...

When you supply water to the system, and the valve on the output (DI) tube is open, they will produce purified water.

So there are a number of ways to "shut off" these systems, and depending upon which of these you choose, the means whereby the system would "turn on" varies.

Many pepole set their systems up so that the on/off functions occur automatically.
