I have a couple (slightly older version) of these that I got Chuck did a big buy for the discount. I use a MJ power head to run them because the JG 3/8 fitting adapts perfectly to the output of the pump so you have a direct connect to the supply tubing

I LOVE THEM TO DEATH!! I have used the TLFs and have nothing bad to say about them but I love the BRS models!

One difference I would note is the inlet valve on the model in your pic is straight but the one I got with the old model has a 90 so my tubing comes straight up from the bottom instead of from the side. I have an extra if you get them and want a valve with a 90 on it.

I have the dual chamber (carbon/GFO) and it works really well Steve. No complains. All you need is a small pump...I'm using a MJ1200 and it works nicely.

they are good man i'm running one on my tank and its the only thing doing filtration and doing a damn good job of it too! i've got preffered customer status on brs i can save you a few bucks if you cant get a group buy together. i also run mine with a mj900 no problems yet. and a neat trick i tried and works really well for me is to drop my mj900 into a small overflow box and use that to surface skim my tank and filter that water and i use the return fitting on my overflow box so i can contain everything in one small box. (subcurrent surface skimmer) its been really effective for me the only hitch is in the morning and after work i need to make sure my water level is correct so the pump doesn't run dry. but if you have an ato then there is nothing to worry about.

im wierd...i kinda like the tlf over the brs...size and ease to change out. i didnt like the fact i couldnt see the media tumbling, so couldnt make adjustments. i bought one, but eventually went back to tlf.....just my 2 cents.

Ok, so I bought a BRS carbon rx and its been in service since Feb 2. How long do you guys go before changing out your carbon media?

Also, any tips on keeping the cannister from clogging up with detritis?

TIA,
Steve

I put extra carbon in so I can change it out at 4 weeks with my GFO, otherwise I would be changing it every 2 weeks at 1 cup per 50g.
