So i am beginning my tank cycling. My live rock seem to be producing bubbles esp at the green/brown areas. Any ideas if this is a good thing or is it a start of a big problem..

It's just algae. No big deal. It's all part of the cycle. It'll eventually die off.

Looks like it might be dinoflagellates... thread with bubbles on it.. could also be a cyano algae as some produce bubbles..

Does it get worse during your lighting period?

borrowed from wet web media posting... this would be an extreme example..

I would just keep the lights off and let it cycle. Monitor your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates. If you don't know how to recognize the stages or have the test kits to test for each, read up on the cycle and get the test kits to test each stage every couple days. Once ammonia spikes and goes down, then nitrate spikes and goes down, and nitrates are 10-15ppm (or less), you are done. Make sure ammonia and nitrites are zero before adding any fish. Keeping the lights off will keep the algae from growing very much.
