Hello all,

Can someone tell me what the coral (circled in red) is below? It is very agressive. The green ric and 2 of the red Blastos in the foreground are now dead.

Thanks

My first guess would be a flower pot. Gonipora (I think)

I don't think so. The polyps don't extend. I had a flowerpot before. This is not the same as I had at all. I will try to get a better picture tonight.

If it is multiple separate heads then it is a duncan I believe. Which are pretty mean

No, there are no separate heads. I think it looks like a brain but it doesn't have that "wormy" look. It also appears to be more of a plating type of coral.

yeah, it likes its space. Any coral near it will be destroyed. I may have to move it to a different tank.

kinda looks like a hydnophora? have you seen it feeding? does it shoot out these white fiber-like arms and try to sting anything near it?

they are quick growers (at least mine was) it came as a piece on a rock that I bought and grew to the pic above. EXTREMELY aggressive to any corals nearby it. I lost several heads of hammer within a couple of days because I didnt notice it stinging. can sting from a far distance ( this is assuming that this coral is the same as the one the OP is trying to ID :) )
the green body looks cool and was bright.

Here is a close up, and you can see the feeding arms curled up and retracting here. I have seen the white fibers stretched out over an inch and a half trying to sting some rics (which is was succesfull in as well)

Thanks Mario. That is it! Using the name I found a picture that shows what I saw when it killed my blasto and ricordia. So I am pretty certain that it is a Hydnophora. Do you know if they can be fragged? I have some friends that want it also.

probably could but I think it would be best if it was cut with a saw or dremel since it encrusts.. I was going to try but I sold it before it could do anymore damage as my tank at the time was too crowded

This is the same coral that Eugene has on one of his overflow.
grow very fast. This corals will kill and grow over any corals that are near it.
