Hi all-

I just got my OW certification and am ready to go. i have a couple of issues though and would like some opinions.

First issue--For health reasons, my wife was unable to obtain OW certs. And, since the kids are gone and we DO want to vacation together, I am looking for a place that would cater to both of us--some diving, a decent beach for relaxation and maybe a bit of snorkling for my wife.

I'd like to know what people suggest. I've been told that Bonaire is pretty good that way.

Second--Since I am traveling and diving alone, how do I find a buddy? It's been drilled into my head to never dive alone, and I certainly agree. Do the dive boats work this out? Do they team people together if you're alone.

Comments?

Thanks-

Larry

Not to sure about the first issue. But as far as the second, I've been in this situation on more than one occasion, being the only diver in a family of land lovers. Usually the dive charter or shop pairs me up with the dive master (actully a nice bonus since most of them know the area you're diving very well) or someone else affiliated them.

Issue 1 - We went to Fiji, wife stayed on the beach, i went diving. There was a Great public beach in Cozemal that would allow you to dive and your wife to snorkel. Tell your travel agent the situation and they can help accomendate you.

Issue 2 - If you are alone, the boat will pair you up with someone. if you are odd man out, then you dive with the dive master. WORD OF CATION: Dive master has other duties. I got stuck with one DM in fiji, he left me to check on the boat and that was when my air ran out and i got washed up onto the reef (at high tide). It took 30 minutes to craw off the reef, got cut up pretty badly. So now they call me ReefWalker. Not a nickname to be proud of.

Issue1: I'm was in the same situation. I went to Hawaii and we got on one of the boats that took us Molokini. Wife and kids got to snorkel and lay out on the boat. I got to dive with other people. If your a beginner, they group you with other beginners. Use the same dive boat twice in the past 4 years.

Issue2: Try your local dive shop or the place were you got certified. They are always willing to take a group trip.
