We have two stations here in Texas City I believe should be reported.
The first one is a Chevron and what happens is, as soon as you pull the handle 16 cents immediately spins off on the counter. So each and every time someone is paying an extra 16 cents. This has been going on for a few months now and I can only imagine the profit they are making from this.
The other is a Phillips station and they have an electronic price board up on their sign. The price says $2.66 a gallon but the pump says $2.96 a gallon. They are advertising their credit card price and it tricks people into thinking cash price is that low. Only if you pay attention to the pumps will you notice that you are paying about 30 cents more a gallon because you are not using their credit card.
I knew they have been doing this for some time but have not looked into the legality of it. But my buddy was bragging today about how he got gas there last night at the best price in town. When I told him what he really paid for a gallon he got ticked off. I told him he should have looked on the pumps first, but who actually does that?
They are making a fortune tricking people this way and I can only imagine the profits from all the poor souls who are thinking they are paying the lowest price in town. Isn't it illegal to post up the credit prices that way?
I have been trying to find out who to report these two stations to online. I am definitly reporting them to their parent companies, but would like to report them to someone who would care.
