I pulled out my 35 octagon/hexagon tank and was going to set it up for freshwater and decided today that I want to try saltwater. All I have is the tank and stand. Can anyone direct me on what kind of stuff I need to buy to get started and can I use this tank??? Thank you so much.

Firstly, I would like to ask advice on if this tank will work (24Hx6-10"Panels). And if so, what will work in it It isn't so much what I want, what can I do with what I have... I just want pretty fish, and clear water =)) Thank you all again.

It can work but it would be costly for you to try and gather equipments for a octo/hexa tank. I'd suggest an all in one nano tank such as the 24g nano cube or similar. I often see them for sale on this board for about $200-250 with stand. You wouldnt have to worry about lighting or filtration and just focus on keeping your livestock healthy.

Yeah, the tank you are trying to make work is gonna be tough to make it look good and also have enough lighting without over heating the water. And then there is the flow issue from the depth.

I would get an AIO nano or a standard sized shallower tank(Something under 14-16")

Jus to put a spin on what the others have said.

I think you could make it work and not be that much trouble.
I think if you have a goo enough imagination a hex could be scaped nicely and lighting could be taken care of with a 150wMH.
Flow......there's too many options now for this to be a problem.

You could use a HOB overflow if the tank can't be drilled. Your next hurdle will be getting a sump into that stand. With the shape of the stand, you are going to be quite limited on the size and you may have to have one custom built. If you go that route, talk to Kyle at Sapphire Aquatics. He does awesome work by the way. He can also build the overflow for the tank, pretty sure he could drill it to if the glass isn't tempered.

To me this would be a hard tank to really start on. For one it will be tough to clean and maintain because of the height of the glass surface. And the depth will also make it harder to aquascape unless you fasten the rocks together.

Why not use this for a FW and get a more conventional tank for your first SW tank. Will make your life alot easier.
