So got up this morning to an unpleasant suprise, seems we have a disease attacking a tank, luckily this tank is isolated from any other system however the occupants are in bad shape. Found a mandarin, 2 damsels dead and a Koran in really bad shape laying on the bottom. There are a pair of Maroons, a pair of banggia cards ( male is holding eggs) and a pair of spotted (pajama) cards as well as 2 serpent stars and some hermits and snails.
After close inspection it seems the Maroons and pajama cards look to have a film all over and cloudy eyes, the banggia look fine.
My delima is do I move the banggia to a safe tank and do Hypo on inffected tank or move the infected fish to QT and do treatment there.
Also I have a rock that has 1 RBTA on it that I will have to move else where and should I be worried, if its velvet disease, of contaminating another tank.
I know the hypo will not do anything for velvet disease and that will have to be treated with copper, but I am worried about possibly assuming this is normal ich ( also there are no white specs on any of the fish but the maroons have little dark spots on their yellow stripe).

Tank specs FYI.
temp 78
SG 1.024
ammonia >.0
phosphate >.1
PH 7.4 ( i think this is what brought the stress on) did slow buf back to 8.2

Ok any suggestions , advise, and recommendatiosn would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
James

Generally ich does not kill that fast, but velvet can. Pics would help.
move all fish to a qt and treat appropriately after ID is positive. Leave your tank for 5-6 weeks with no fish.

here are couple of pictures of the maroon and the pajama it is hard to see the detail with my phone camera.
The Koran expired, however I inspected the gills and with out a microscope I could see no signs of anything out of the normal.

Look up Brooklynella, may be that. If so you need to act fast, it is a super fast killer. Neither hypo or copper will kill it either.

So in the heat of the moment should I go with Brooklynella, all the symptoms are there. I wonder if the formalin would kill the velvet and regular ich as well...? I did a quick freshwater dip has I transferd them into Q tanks. I will begin hypo as well and then do the formalin dips starting tomorrow.
We will see.

Brook wiped out most of my tank. It kills very very very fast. Formallin is pretty much the only treatment that works on it. Atleast you were able to get the fish out. Try catching fish in a 260 with all of the liverock mortared together. I wish you luck bud. That stuff is nasty and I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

I wouldn't do the hypo, just the formalin. Formalin is really pretty rough on them but is pretty broad in what it treats, brook, ich, velvet. That would be your best bet, but the hypo will just add additional stress on a sick fish that will get additional stress from the treatment. No good answer here, I also lost all my fish within a 72 hour period when new to the hobby from either brook or velvet. It's fast so start the treatment asap.

I get a lot of random dislikes too. Sometimes I read my post and think that had to be a mistake, but maybe people just don't like me. It is usually the same person...

Maybe they were just disliking that you had to go through it...

Sorry about that Ostentum. It was an accident and I followed up with undo dislike seconds afterwards. Excuse the interruption.

Some of the big box stores actually carry this, branded as rid ich+ I believe. That also has malachite green- a strong combination but can work with what you are dealing with here. Unfortunately when brook or velvet hits, plus the strength of the treatment..it's not good on the chances. But the earlier you get it done the higher they are.

Yea we had brook whipe out our 180 which is why we took it down and started over. It took out all of our fish in 72 hours. I really hope that you have better luck treating it and can save some of your fish. Sorry to hear you are dealing with it, I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

James,
I would have to agree with Cat on thats probably brook if it happened that fast. I would only treat with formalin if it was me because its tough on the fish and most dont make it (Hate to be a downer) its just a fact.I would get all inverts out of tank and remove fish from that tank until your sure Its clean.Im not sure how long it takes to die -maybe someone her can chime in but its nasty and will last as long as you keep fish in that tank.

Ive heard from others that when they are on their phone/tablet it is easy to hit dislike and then not even know you had disliked the post.

I wouldn't take it personal.
