I used a chiller to keep my aquarium at 77 f. But it has a problem and I had to shut down it, so now my temperature is 83 f. My question is :
Could this temperature affect corals (sps)?

Thanks
Jonathan

My tank is routinely 83 in the summer and it does not seem to affect anything. If your tank went from 77 to 83 too quickly that might be a problem, but just being 83 should not be.

Mine tends to hit 82/83 during the hot summers days but I would be concerned if it were 83 all the time.
Im home everyday so I routinely check mine but you have no margin for error. Eventually you will loose all
without a chiller or different lights.

My average temperature is 81-82. As FrankC mentioned, how quickly the rise to 83 from 77 is more of the concern then the tank itself being at 83. I would however say that an extended period at 83 is probably not ideal. Higher temperatures are a breeding ground for bacteria and also algae. It also increases metabolism in corals and fish as well so there are some benefits but honestly, I think the disadvantages outweigh the positives for most.

Low to mid 80's is ok it's just less room for error/mishaps.

If it's a temporary thing, you could consider turning your house AC colder.
If my house AC is set to 71, my tank stays at the set temp of 78-ish.
If my house temp goes up to 75-76, my tank temp creeps up in the low 80's.

I must be lucky with the house about 76 my tank will stay 78-79. When the halides come on it will climb to 80-81.5. I do have fans in the canopy that helps a lot!

That is exactly my situation now. I just bought some film to put on all my windows so hopefully I don't have to run the AC as much.

So what was up with it and how did you fix it? Interested in hearing...
It was a easy fix, because I did not mees up with the compressor or gas. The problem was the fan, so it was clog and I adjusted it.
