Anyone have a Red Sea Wavemaker Pro? Or another type of wavemaker set up for that matter. I want to get one. Any suggestions? I like things with lots of bells and whistles..... :D

vortech, tunze both have very nice $$ controllables, hydor has a low voltage model that can be had in either 2 or 4 pump controllable. If you have an Neptune Systems AC Jr, ACIII or Apex and want to use ports on your DC8 or EB8 you can plug one or more hydor EVO pumps and put the port(s) on a random timer. I did that with two EVO 750's on an ACJR.

Steve,
I like the Neptune and the way that it looks and I have been doing some reading on it too, and I like the fact that I can add test probes to it as well as have my wave maker going all in one set up. Its almost the cake and eat it too set up from what I can tell. It has everything I have been looking for. How do you like yours? Is it user friendly? What is the set up like?

alexrex10, gabe_j,
So are the vortech designed to handle the on off stress that a wavemaker will put it through, and is this compatible with the use of the Neptune system? I want to put this in a 65 gallon when I get it, you think 2 power heads is sufficient to make "waves"?

Thanks for yalls input!
Christopher

I like it. Its fairly user friendly. Has lots of features that I'm about to put to use when I do my 400 gallon build. I used it on my son's 36 gallon for a while (way over kill). I picked up an AC Jr w/temp probe and DC8 for 75.00 + Ph probe, that is what I am using on it now. It doesn't have as many features but does what I need it to do on that tank. On the same 36 gallon tank I also have an MP10 ES. Very cool pump has several different modes. I use random lagoon mode and long pulse mode as the mood moves me. :) Yes the Vortechs are designed to start/stop (really its more like spin up/spin down - I don't recall (haven't paid attention) to see if the pump actually stops anytime (I don't think it does). Even in feed mode it still spins the prop. just a lower RPM.

You can get a Wireless Expansion Module (WXM) to control your vortech pumps with the APEX. You have to have the Vortech MPxxw ES (wireless version).

You might be able to get away with 2 MP10's, but you might want to look at the MP40's or a combination (kinda depends on tank dimension and intended use). You can contact EcoTech Marine and they can provide guidance. The amount of flow needed will somewhat be controlled by what your intended use is i.e. SPS, LPS, softie, fish only, mixed reef, etc.

In my 36 which is a bow front 30x18x24(if I remember right) mixed reef with way to many fish, I have 2 Hydor EVO750's running on random timers and 1 MP10 ES + return pump for flow.
