Most excellent. Did you make the stand and canopy yourself - very nice.

So, what is your setup (lighting, etc) and what are you going to keep?

The tank is under cycle with LR and LS only. Just noticed in the AC300 he water surface looks like a very thin layer of oily, and noticed in the AC300 the water is like stand still although it is flowing in the tank.
any idea? what that could be.
thanks

hmm... not sure because your tank is cycling and from the looks of things you do not have live stock. usually when you have a thin oil slick film on the water surface are the protien released by your live stock. this is what a skimmer is used for, to get rid of that protein build up. but my guess it is probably just die off from your live rock or something. thats my guess. good luck.

You actually do not need the lights on for the cycle period. Try turning them off for a few days and remove as much by hand as possible. I have a 2.5G. I change the water weekly and top off daily.
Are you using ro water?

If you try to remove the algae by hand, be careful because every little strand that gets in the water column can land somewhere else and cause more algae to grow. I second turning the lights off. When the cycle is over hopefully water changes can help get rid of the algae. Might want to consider leaving the lights off until it clears up.

Man I have been fighting this battle in my 45G tank for months but now I am finally winning. My suggestion...

Grab a new tooth brush.... take out all the rock that has any hint of hair algae... and scrub it all off, then grab a hose spray it down so you don't have any thing clinging, then dip it in RO/DI water to make sure there is nothing left. also pop and unwanted bubble algae and whatever you do not want now. this way you wont have to deal with it later and hand picking it off will allow strands to fall off somewhere, like Brandon said. Also check for phosphates as well. That was my problem.

Well just my opinion... just look at it like a chance to re-rock scape :D

Good luck.

BTW your tank might still be cycling so don't fret about it... Even though it has been a few months you will go through a algae and cyano cycle for a while... Hope everything works out for you.
