My husband and I want to plan a trip to Cozumel to scuba dive soon, since we just recently got our NAUI license. Can someone recommend a hotel and or a dive shop that does scuba excursions?

Thanks,
Thresa

I like the El presidenta

As for deals pick up a Mag called Scuba Diver. You will see a lot of packaged deals for Cozumel. I like Cozumel and have been there about 5 time diving. The diving is nice as long as you do not get stuck in some strong currents. The larges diving operator is called Dive Paradise. They are alright but I would go with some one smaller. It is better to be is a smaller group/boat than a bigger one. I highly recommend eating at Premos and la mission. Have fun it is hard not to

Email fernando@mantaraya.com. (may be mantarayadivers.com) He is the best guide on the island...always good trips and he avoids the crowds...2 tank w BCD, tanks and weights is about $60...my favorite hotel on the island is Cozumel Hotel and Resort...you can snorkle right across the street and fernando will pick you up at the dock there. The manager, Alex will take great care of you. You can book thru travelocity...i think 6 days 5 nights for my son and myself with airfare from San Antonio was about 1500. All meals are included + free Dos Equis, cokes and local tequila. can't beat that deal

Dove down there about a dozen years ago - was good diving, but not great. Lots of deep drift dives - which are fun. I'd do a little checking tosee what the recent hurricane did. When I was there a hurricane had snapped off all the soft corals/seafans the year before.

I dive with an outfit called anita divers. They are the coolest and nicest people I have ever dove with. It is a small company and you get some great individual attention. The price is about $10 more than everyone else but they also serve up some of the best food for lunch. I promise it will be the best dive group you have ever met.

If you're going that far south, why not go to Bonaire? Much better diving, much better conditions for enrty level divers, and you can do all your diving right from shore.

Yes - Bonaire is more expensive - but wow - what great diving. I've dove a number of locations in the Carribean - Keys, Andros Island, Tortola, and Coz - and Bonaire is a clear stand out.
