Recently bought a female pink square anthias. When we brought it home we realized it has film over one eye (I know should have double checked it before we bought it). After researching I have concluded it is cloudy eye.

We didn't want to risk our other fish so he have set up a quarantine tank (about 25 g) with water from our display tank. However, the nitrite level has risen to .1. I don't want to risk taking more cycled water from the display tank and endangering the healthy fish.

Also, I purchased Maracyn to treat the eye. Is there any point in treating while the nitrite levels are off? Any suggestions on what I can do to save this fish would be appreciated.

I don't know if it will help but when I set up my QT, I bought a Marinelane Bio-wheel filter just to be safe. Also, you may want to get an Ammonia alert badge too. A few members directed me to these products.

Taking water from your display tank is fine if your replacing it with new saltwater. The bacteria used to break down ammonia is mainly attached to the sand and rock, and not floating around in the system. Doing a large water change is one of the easiest ways to reduce, phos, nitrates and ammonia. How old is your tank? High nitrates are usually caused by overfeeding or insufficient bacteria colonies to reduce them.

The QT has old sand and rock in it. We have a bare bottom 10 g tank - would I be better off putting the fish in there with water from the display tank?
