Been in the hobby for roughly five years now. While I have owned a DSLR for 3 years now I can not say I am great with it. I own two Nikons a D3000 and D90. Here are a couple of my shots any tips and pointers are very well appreciated.

This one is terrible not very well focused but I like that the colors are very true to the eye.

Looks great to me.
What are you using to process your photos? Are you shooting in RAW.
I find RAW is the best way to shoot our tanks since the camera will almost never be able to get the correct white balance. So if you shoot in RAW it doesn't matter... just tweak your WB in post.
That's the only thing I think these need, a slight white balance tweak.

These where not in RAW. I don't have photo editing software so it was shot in jpg. I played with the contrast and made some touch ups to make it better focused but could not mess with the whitebalance. Only using an old version of PS, 7.0 I believe.

Then you can set a custom wb in camera. Check your user manual for how to create a custom preset. :)

Gimp and Raw therapy are free programs that can do just about anything Photoshop can do. Takes quite a bit of practice and LOTS of you tube video watching to learn how to use it. But when Photoshop costs around $700 I think it's worth the trouble. I have the T5i.

You do not need photoshop, you have Photoshop Lightroom which is awesome and I use it on all of my photos.
OP, in the wb settings of your d90, go to custom and set to 10k, this will help eliminate most of the blue in the images.
the d90 shakes internally when the shutter is released, so you need a steady hand or a tripod when shooting with low shutter speeds.
what macro lens do you own?
