im wanting to check and see how you use the pickling lime to make the corals grow in you tank ..someone i met told me all they use to feed their corals in their tank is pickling lime ..if you can use this how much do you use and how often do you use it ...can you just add it to your tank or do you need some kind of a machine to dose it to your ..also i hear that the pickling lime is the same as kalkwasser mix ...i was using a calcium supplement and they said for better results they said to use it with the kalkwasser mix ..we ll i get it in and it says for best results use in a drip system ...well i dont have a drip system ...can i just mix it up like the pickling lime and add it to the tank and is the pickling lime and the kalkwasser the same thing ..and is that all you need to use in the tank ...thanks

Just to be correct you are not feeding the corals with this you are providing calcium and some alkalinity that they use to build their skeletons.

Read these...

Kalkwasser=lime water; which is calcium hydroxide mixed with ro/di water.

If you look at the info below from the ms. wages web site you will see that it is food grade calcium hydroxide.

For pickling cucumbers the old-fashioned way for extra crispness and flavor! Makes Cucumber Lime Pickles (recipe on each canister), Green Tomato Pickles, Watermelon Rinds and Citron Pickles. Food grade calcium hydroxide with no additives or preservatives.

You can get it at Walmart where the canning goods are.

I think theres a common misconception that you have to dose everything.

In my opinion, you should only worry about dosing if you have lots of lps and or sps. Even with a moderate amount of lps, you can just get away with water changes for the most part.

Kalkwasser/lime water is equal parts alkalinity and calcium. So if you dose kalk and calc, you could be throwing your system outta whack. It is important to measure you levels before starting any real dosing regime.

Have tried dosing two part solutions for Ca/Alk supplementation. Currently top off with limewater(kalkwasser) I prefer the kalk. It's fairly simple, it has been working well for me for about 3 years now. I don't think it is actually balanced on the Alkalinity side, I do have to supplement for desired alkalinity. I just use baking powder(arm & hammer) mixed woth RODI. Occasionally, Magnesium needs a little boost, Magnesium Chloride dissolved in RODI. These additions are based on test results.
