I purchased a used complete set up that is running a Pro Clear 150 skimmer/wet dry. (Oceanic 105) I have had it running for about 5 days and the water temp has been around 82. It has a Pondmaster Mag 12 pump which I swaped with an old Cap 2200 pump I had. Last night the temp went down to 79. Should I try to pumb my Mag 12 so it is not submerged to help with the heat?

Thanks!

Welcome to MARSH!

Mag-drive pumps are notorious for putting a lot of heat into the water. Running it external will help a little, but water will still pass through the pumps internal cooling/calcium loop and pick up heat from that. You also have to watch the seal (on any external pump) for leaks.

A fan or two blowing across the waters surface should help bring the water temps down a couple of degrees if you want to stick with that pump. However, if 82 degrees is your max with lights on etc. then I dont think that is really too high IMO.

Thanks for the help guys. Good point about having to worry about pump seals. I hadn't thought of that. If 82 sounds ok I may just let it run.
