So, I have 2 different varieties of GSP in my tank.

This kind:

And this kind:

When the polyps are retracted, you can really see, what I'm going to describe as "appendages," growing from the base of the corals. They look kind of like Mr. Potato Head's ears, for lack of better description. So, do I just rip these things off and frag them, or what? I'm afraid these "appendages" will fall off and start growing where I don't want them.

Sorry about the newbie question... but I leery of growing GSP all over my tank. Thanks in advance!

I use to get them all of the time. They are definitely growth reaching up to grab on to anything they can find and encrust. I use to pull them off and attach them to LR rubble to frag mine.

I have the type like your top pic. Mine grow those little ears off trying to reach for surrounding rocks. I'd just snip 'em and rubber band/glue them to some rubble.
