Anyone running a Reef Octopus skimmer? What model and what size tank do you have it on? Do you like it? Hate it?

I have the Reef Octopus NW200. In my other tank it did an ok job in a 30 Long sump but in the new tank w/40G breeder tank sump it's going crazy and no mods on it, pulls out lots of skimate and I have to clean it out every 2 days so I'm happy with it but I have not had many to compare with personally.

If I got with the octopus line or any line at that, do I want recirc or needlewheel?

Recirculation doesn't exclude needlewheel. You can get a skimmer with both. Recirculating is more of a hassle (more pumps) but supposedly better performance.

I've had NW150 for more than a year and I've been happy with it.

do yall think an ASM G4x with Sedra 9000 would be too much or too little on a 180?

hey mario, i actually was going to go with an asm g4x, but i'm not a huge fan of asm. they are rated for like 400 or 450 gallons, but with asm, i hear you have to cut their ratings in half to get a good operational capacity.

the octopus i used was the dwn-150 (recirc) on my 90. right now i'm using a euroreef rs250 on my 180 and that thing is a champ. the only problem i have is that my water level is 4" too deep for an in-sump skimmer, but despite that, i get good skim from my euroreef.

those euroreefs are expensive
couldnt you stick something under the skimmer to bring it up 4" ?

I was also looking at the Reefoctopus DNWb 200 Recirculating .. seems the same as the 150 that you posted but a little bigger and it has a bubble plate

my octopus didn't have the bubble plate. that's a fairly new thing for them.

i have a stand to raise the skimmer up, but the sump is eurobraced and it makes it a little difficult to raise the skimmer onto the stands i currently have. i could cut them down a tad i guess, but i'm not too worried about it. i get a nice, dark skimmate quickly and can still run it somewhat dry in its current configuration.

If you are going to edit my post and remove pics, at least post why you did. I dont post the pics for my health, only to get feedback from someone who has used this product before, and we all know that pics get replys..
I have been noticing more and more posts have been edited on this board with no explanation. I have an idea as to who it was and only thing I can think is that mod status went to his head
